Editor's Notes

  1. What could cause billions of dead things to be buried in rock layers formed by water borne sediments all over the earth?
  2. Always be ready to make a defense for the hope that is in you
  3. Be purposeful, conducting yourself with wisdom so you can respond to each person appropriately…
  4. And we need to be loving, not quarrelsome… With the idea to bring someone to Christ or strengthen their faith.
  5. This is the definitive book, recently updated – if you’re going to buy one, this is it. Written by a PhD Geologist who was on the faculty of OU and left to be on staff at ICR, now president.
  6. If you are going to buy one video this would be it
  7. If you are going to buy two videos, this is the second, but it’s available on youtube.
  8. Remember that the first 4 c’s foreshadow the final three c’s Today we are talking about the catastrophe brought on by the corruption of sin
  9. Reminder of scriptures we have covered
  10. “All things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation” – Uniformitarianism They deliberately overlook creation and the flood
  11. Many theories trying to discredit the Bible and fit scripture into a millions of years worldview try to make the flood regional But why is it necessary that it be a global flood? Is a regional flood viable biblically? OPEN YOUR BIBLES TO GEN 6 The historical account of the flood is from Genesis 6-10… we don’t have time to read it all today out loud, so I want you to see it in context and be able to highlight in your own Bible for future reference as you read it yourself.
  12. Reason for the flood was the wickedness of man which had corrupted the entire creation… not just humanity – you know how bad we can be today – and we only have about 70 years to really do damage – can you imagine how wicked a generation could get living 700 years?
  13. Reason was our sin Again, just like we saw in the creation narrative – This is HISTORICAL NARRATIVE – all ancient Hebrew Historical Narrative begins by giving a brief overview of the historical account and then gives specifics 5-8 is the overview, v9 on is the specifics – including Noah’s ship’s log. Just like the Historical Narrative in Genesis 1 gives the general overview of the creation week and Gen 2 fills in the specific details like how the garden was watered and how man was created and how he reacted when he saw his wife for the first time – truly the first wonder of the world.
  14. Purpose wasn’t just to destroy man, but everything
  15. Cubit is distance from a man’s hand to his elbow ~18inches Water was 22.5 feet above the mountains Ark was 300cubits x 50 x 40 therefore about 45ft high Presume the ark would sink about half its height, could go anywhere and not strike ground REMEMBER- the same mountains that we see today aren’t the same mountains that were there then – probably smaller Why? We’ll get to that in a minute
  16. Everything was obliterated
  17. How long were they on the boat? All the fountains of the great deep burst open – we’ll cover that again in a minute, but can you imagine the horror of that? So it started in the 600th year in the 2nd month
  18. How long were they on the boat? So it started in the 600th year in the 2nd month They got off in the 601st year in the 2nd month About One year or 371 days – so this isn’t just a few weeks of flooding after Katrina waiting for FEMA to arrive Again – the precision with which God’s word is recorded is amazing. So there are other reasons that a regional flood isn’t viable, but let’s look at one more… ARK
  19. How far can you walk in 120y??? Because if it’s a regional flood, why would God have told Noah to build an ark? He would have told him to walk away like He did Lot. If you walked half a day, everyday at 2mph (that’s Wal-Mart speed) at the equator you could walk around the earth 42 times!!! That brings us to the first question about the ark -
  20. BUILDING RATE Assuming 15 cubic feet per day built with a few people it would take a maximum of 81 years to build That’s 2 ½ x 2 ½ x 2 ½ ft
  21. This was 7 generations after Adam – these people were smart
  22. Tubal-Cain was 7 generations after Adam – these people were smart Noah was 9 generations after These were extremely intelligent people that lived a long time How many things could you be an expert in in 900 years?? And remember they had 120 years to build it
  23. If the earth were completely flat, from ocean floor to continent, water would cover the surface for 3km In fact – we went on a cruise recently where I took this video…
  24. Probably weren’t as tall as they are today
  25. Probably weren’t as tall as they are today
  26. Theory originally proposed in 1859 by Antoino Snider, but Darwin’s book overshadowed it and it was rediscovered in the 1950’s Basically it said that the land mass broke apart and within one year moved to the locations that they are The force with which they would have been moving caused the massive collisions that would shove up the mountains.
  27. So let’s put that in feet for better understanding
  28. For comparison the Titanic had a gross tonnage of 46000 tons The Ark would have about 14000 tons
  29. Again even fully loaded it would have plenty of room for food and water, waste disposal – again, Noah’s not stupid.
  30. Structurally it had to be very well built, but not fancy. No crown molding or distressed finishes here.
  31. In fact research out of University of Michigan says that it was they best possible design. Dr. Seon Won Hong was principal research scientist Ph.D. degree in applied mechanics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. That brings us to our next question – How could you fit all those animals on the Ark?
  32. They came to Noah – not the other way around So another question answered here – were there dinosaurs on the Ark? – YES When were dinosaurs created? Day 6 Gen 1:24-25 Do we find dead dinosaurs trapped in the sediments of the flood? YES So were they alive immediately pre-flood? YES So logically they were on the Ark. And they are kinds not species You see we classify living things today…
  33. Based on evolutionary reasoning – which doesn’t work and is the reason no two groups of scientists agree on any classification system. So a kind seems to be interbreedable groups – which is generally a family - It incorporates components of all three Family, Genus and Species – For example speaking generally Dogs – there are many dog species, most are interbreedable – that is the Canid family
  34. When we look at the number of species of animals in pairs it’s a big number, but is most likely less than that with kinds For the genera of Amphibians – no one agrees – so I just basically doubled the highest number I could find to be fair. How many of each would you bring? WELL let’s use round numbers and round WAY up… If we go with species
  35. Most animals are small - The average being the size of a sheep Based on the Biblical account, The Ark would have the capacity of 522 train cars or 125k sheep The big creatures would most likely be young and smaller – because it would be easier for them to repopulate due to having a longer life span. So even if you used species it would work, but most likely there were less than 3000 living beings on that boat to care for.
  36. Again, I’m doing this so that you have answers for your kids – how are we teaching your kids to combat the world today?
  37. Remember, if you want you can see that whole video on youtube. Answers in Genesis and the Creation Museum is actually building a full scale Ark as the main attraction for an evangelistic theme park in Kentucky – and if you like pickled herring, there is also one built in netherlands and in Hong Kong
  38. IF THERE REALLY WAS A GLOBAL FLOOD: the earth would have been dramatically reshaped and there would be muddy sediments carried from one place to another We would see layered sedimentary rock which is deposited by water everywhere And in fact that is exactly what we see! CLICK… This is visible where the layers are exposed like in the….
  39. Always remember - IF THERE REALLY WAS A GLOBAL FLOOD: the earth would have been dramatically reshaped and there would be muddy sediments laid down in layers all over the earth How do we know they were laid down and were muddy all at the same time? We will get to that in a minute
  40. Biblical model, which actually make the most sense. What could else could cause billions of dead things to be buried in rock layers formed by water borne sediments from the valleys to the mountains all over the earth? BUT HOW COULD RAPIDLY MOVING WATER DEPOSIT LAYERS???
  41. BUT HOW COULD RAPIDLY MOVING WATER DEPOSIT LAYERS??? LETS LISTEN TO DR. STEVE AUSTIN WHO DID HIS PhD WORK AT Mt St HELENS
  42. After dental and law school we moved to Flagstaff Arizona to get away On the weekends we were ski instructors at our local Ski Resort This is the view from my office…
  43. When you drive area something should hit you – where did all the layers go?
  44. This would have happened during the flood as the waters were coming and going Constantly depositing rock and tearing it away when it receded Most of you probably think the Grand Canyon was formed due to gradual erosion “all things are happening as since the beginning of creation” But the Canyon is there because of a massive Dam breach in the Kaibab Upwarp
  45. Let’s listen again to Dr. Austin about how that happened.
  46. This happened because of a massive Dam breach in the Kaibab Upwarp
  47. Austin, S.A. 1994. "How was the Grand Canyon Formed?" in The Grand Canyon: Monument to the Flood Institute for Creation Research, Santee. p. 83-110.

  49. Austin, S.A. 1994. "How was the Grand Canyon Formed?" in The Grand Canyon: Monument to the Flood Institute for Creation Research, Santee. p. 83-110. But can we see this today??? Because most of us won’t make it to Mt. St. Helens
  50. Look at an areal photograph of the dam
  51. July 4, 2002 flood began First flood since 1964 that the lake topped the spillway. Guadalupe River Watershed received 34” of rain in one week Normal flow is 350 cfs – max 5000 cfs. At peak 67,000 cfs, 7 feet above the Spillway. 1-1/2 times the lake went over the Spillway for 6 weeks
  52. July 4, 2002 flood began First since 1964. Guadalupe River Watershed received 34” of rain in one week Normal flow is 350 cfs – max 5000 cfs. At peak 67,000 cfs, 7 feet above the Spillway. 1-1/2 times the lake went over the Spillway for 6 weeks
  53. 1995 – prior to flood
  54. 2004 The flood cut a gorge in the rocky earth over a mile long, hundreds of yards wide and over 50 feet deep in only a few weeks
  55. Lampuuk indonesia 2004 Wave ripped up the mountain side 50 feet in elevation Distance on the photo (the smaller one) is about 3 miles
  56. Lampuuk indonesia 2004 Wave ripped up the mountain side 50 feet in elevation Distance on the photo is about 3 miles
  57. Iwate Prefecture, Japan 2011 Just one spot in Japan Death toll from the one tidal wave in Japan – over 19,000 To do that by yourself in 24 hours you would have to kill 1 person every 5 seconds for 24 hours straight
  58. Can you imagine the horror of everything breaking loose at once???
  59. Can you imagine the horror of everything breaking loose at once??? Massive tidal waves Underground gysers Volcanos Hypercanes And we haven’t even talked about a big cause of destruction….
  60. Astroblemes are all over the earth – many are underground, under and in the sediment of the flood Evidently they hit the earth while the strata were still being laid down or eroded This causes massive tidal waves and some were so big, they actually caused the earth to flex and ring sending water everywhere. HAVE YOU EVER SHOT A PELLET GUN INTO THE WET GROUND? Meteor Creator was formed while the sediment was still wet immediately after the flood
  61. If there was a Catastrophic Global Flood, we would not only expect to see sedimentary rock laid down all over the earth, but dead things in them right? We would expect to see evidence of water covering the whole earth in every area of all the continents right? WE DO!!!
  62. Most of us have been to the beach
  63. When you look at the sand there are ripples in the sand…. How long does it take to destroy those? So in order to be recorded as a fossil they would have to be quickly buried right?
  64. In fact, that is what we see.
  65. What is really interesting is that there is usually a flat surface on the top of the ripples from compression of the overlying layers when the sediment was wet
  66. And when you are at the beach – you usually see trash like erchins and jellyfish
  67. If you have ever seen a jellyfish move, it pumps itself
  68. It does that on the sand too, so when the water comes back up it might be able to catch the wave If you pick one up, you will notice that the sand is suctioned up underneath it. NOW HOW LONG DOES A DEAD JELLYFISH LIE AROUND???? In order to be fossilized it would have to be rapidly covered with forces that we don’t see today, right… But we find them everywhere
  69. But we should see these everywhere
  70. And we do – all over the earth Russia, China, Europe, US From the plains to the mountains
  71. “All things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation” – Uniformitarianism They deliberately overlook creation and the flood
  72. The Message of the flood is part of the greater love story of the Bible Remember that Genesis 1-11 foreshadow the New Testament THE FIRST 4 C’S PREDICT THE LAST 3
  73. The Flood Foreshadows Christ Notice God sealed the ark shut – must have been big door
  74. Just as Noah had to enter into a door to the ark of salvation – Jesus equates himself to a door leading to salvation Just as Noah was sealed into the Ark, Eph 1:13 says…
  75. Just as Noah was sealed into the ark by God, we are sealed into salvation by the Holy Spirit The flood also predicts the future… Sfragizo – sealed – signet ring in wax
  76. The flood also predicts the future The flood serves as a reminder to us and a call to action – tell everyone we can. Let’s Pray
  77. So first off, there is a book you can get, it’s called the Bible… But interestingly there is actually records in other languages such as the Chinese language which is a pictorial language
  78. Living Dust and Man – because God breathed into dust to make man who then could talk to his creator. Now when the communists took over the country they tried to simplify the language to make it easier for type setting, and many of these characters have been conveniently changed, but the people still know them – kind of like cursive is today.
  79. We see dust and breath again along with two people and an enclosure – The place where God created man were two people. But wait – we were talking about the flood -
  80. The words together, earth and eight – because together on the earth during the global flood only eight people were left on the boat Noah made By the way the word boat…
  81. Vessel, eight and mouths or people – because on the ark were eight people who carried the message of the global flood with them and passed it down to successive generations. So it makes sense that every major people group would have their own recollection, broken as it may be….
  82. In fact, every major people group has their own flood legend that in some way replicates the truth in the bible – But the Bible is still the most accurate because it has been maintained by God.
