What is Copyright?
◎ Copyright is an exclusive right of the copyright holder given by law.
◎ It is a right to copy or reproduce the work for which the author has got the
copyright.
◎ It is a product of human skill & his mental capacity to do something creative.
◎ It is a right to do or authorizing others to do certain acts.

Functions of Copyright Board -
◎ To decide whether a work has been published.
◎ To settle the disputes as to assignment of copyright u/s 19-A.
◎ To settle the disputes as to assignment.
◎ To grant compulsory license to public unpublished Indian works.
◎ To grant compulsory license to produce and publish translation of literary and
dramatic works.
◎ To determine royalties payable to the owner of copyright.
◎ To rectify the errors made in registers maintained by the copyright office or board.

Rights of a Copyright Holder -
◎ Right to reproduce
◎ Right to communicate to public
◎ Right to issue new copies of the work
◎ Right to have a copyright for fixed terms.
◎ Right to assign
◎ Right to seek legal remedy in case of infringement or right to sue
◎ Right to grant license

Exemptions -
◎ For the purpose of research or private study
◎ For learning and teaching in a classroom
◎ For criticism or review
◎ For reporting current events
◎ In connection with judicial proceeding
◎ Performance by an amateur club or society if the performance is given to a non-
paying audience
◎ The making of sound recordings of literary, dramatic or musical works under
certain conditions
