Test

21. In the late ‘60’s a researcher
conducted what became known as

22. He gave 5 year-olds an
option-
Eat a marshmallow now.

23. Or wait a few minutes and get
another marshmallow.

24. Approximately 20% displayed “delayed
gratification” and got the second
marshmallow.

25. 80% caved to “instant gratification”
and ate the marshmallow.

26. Tested 12 years later, the 20% (delayed
gratification) kids had higher SAT scores.

27. Tested at mid-life, the 20% kids scored higher
in educational attainment, professional
progress, relationship satisfaction and
physical health.

28. And in 2011, a brain scan looked at two
areas of the brain and accurately predicted
whether the subject did or did not eat the
marshmallow 40 years before.

29. In other words, by age 5, we are
HARDWIRED for either delayed or
instant gratification.
And, left
unchallenged, that
hardwiring greatly
determines our
future success.
