The first reported attacks of the Chupacabra occurred in 1995 in Puerto Rico, where eight sheep were found dead with puncture wounds and drained of blood. In subsequent months over 150 farm animals were reportedly killed in Puerto Rico. Similar killings occurred in 1975 and were attributed to "The Vampire of Moca". The term "chupacabra" was coined by Puerto Rican comedian Silverio Pérez to describe the creature. Sightings and animal deaths attributed to the Chupacabra have since been reported across Latin America and the United States. The Chupacabra is thought to be either a mythical creature or a mutation of a coyote based on genetic testing.
