Della only had $1.87 to buy her husband Jim a Christmas present. She decided to sell her long, beautiful hair to a shop to get money for a watch chain to match Jim's gold watch. On Christmas, when Jim came home and saw Della's new short haircut, he was surprised. However, he was touched by Della's sacrifice and said they should forget about presents and just be happy together.
