How Post-Production Pros Create Engrossing Interview VideosMotion Edits
Bringing an interview to life via video is a daunting task. Conducting and shooting it is difficult in itself, but what makes it watchable video content is the hours of hard work that happen in post-production. Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

2. The Art of Documentary Film Editing
• The finished motion picture is the product of the combined efforts of numerous artists. A feature film’s success or
failure often hinges on the editor’s skilled hands. It is organizing the raw video into a film that makes sense. The
film editor is responsible for choosing and editing shots to assemble into scenes and sequences, employing a wide
range of editing techniques and making editorial judgments by the director’s vision and any specific creative
directions.
• Video editing services is its distinct art form. However, it shares similarities with literary editing, in which an editor
may work independently or in collaboration with the author to shape a rough draft into a polished piece of writing.
Skilful or artistic editing can add to the immersive experience of cinema, during which specific cuts or editing go
unnoticed, earning the film editor the moniker “invisible artist.” The editing style is a storytelling element that will
define the film. Again using literature as an analogy, I will say that when reading a novel, the reader focuses on the
plot, not the author’s style or the editing quality.
• The specifics of the film editing tasks required by a given project will vary. A documentary film editor, for instance,
might alternate between an interviewer and interviewee, with b-roll material inserted in between. If you are used
to working on TV shows with strict schedules and a set episode length, you might find the editing process for a
feature film more inspiring. Including a brief or edit decision list can make advertising video editing more complex.
3. Describe The Film Editing Process And What It Includes
• The “invisible art” of film editing is often cited. The more skillfully the film is edited, the clearer it is. The
craft of documentary film editing lies in the delicate balancing act of taking hours of raw video and skillfully
piecing together a fascinating and cohesive whole.
• Images in a well-edited film should flow naturally into one another, setting the tone for the film’s rhythm
and carrying the audience along with it. Editing works in tandem with the narrative, the performances, and
the actual filming to create a cohesive whole that achieves the film’s goals.
4. How Important Is Editing In A Film?
• Good video editing company builds on each moment to reveal their full potential and create a flow that
serves the scene’s goals. The editor is responsible for arranging the sequence of events. Editing is often
called the “third writing” of a film, following the script and the shooting.
• The goal of every revision should be to increase the story’s tension or emotional resonance. There must be
moments of silence to allow the audience to process the events unfolding on screen.
5. What Are Some Signs Of Poor Editing?
• It is probably not very good if you are conscious of the editing. If there are abrupt cuts between scenes or
the picture moves at a breakneck pace, it may have been edited too quickly. Potential for enhancement
exists, most likely.
• Not cutting enough would also be a symptom of poor editing because it would make the tale drag and the
outcomes of scenes too predictable. Disorienting breaks in continuity are an indication of sloppy editing. A
flat edit is a shot that does not contribute to the story and slows the action down.
• Film Editing Methods
• Many methods used to outsource video editing were developed via years of experimentation with the
medium. Some of the following are frequently utilized in the film industry, while others are far rarer.
6. What Are Some Signs Of Poor Editing?
• Editing for Continuity
• This method, one of the earliest editing forms, ensures everything looks the same from one shot to the next. Shot
after shot, the character must continue either to drink from the cup or hold onto it for the duration of the
sequence.
• When not anything adds up, that is what we call a “continuity error.” These are among the most egregious errors
that moviegoers will undoubtedly spot. It is amusing to point out, but it can pull an audience out of the film if it is
too obvious or distracting. This is why continuity is such an important notion in film editing.
• Dissolve
• The dissolve is an old and reliable editing method used in countless films. It is like seeing a scenario play out while
simultaneously watching another scene roll in, superimposed on top of it. It can be useful if you want the viewers
to process what happened in the previous scene before moving on to the next one. It can also be used to suggest
time’s passage by drawing comparisons or making analogies between the entering and exiting situations.
7. What Equipment Is Used To Edit Movies?
• As post-production video editing software has improved, much of the filmmaking process has shifted there.
In terms of sound and visual effects, colour correction, and music, a “rough cut” is today extremely near to
the final product. They employ numerous pieces of film editing software and hardware. In post-production,
these are some tools that pros frequently use:
• Non-Linear Editor (NLE)
• An NLE’s timeline, media bins, and editing tools are all industry standards that help editors stay on top of
their game. In recent years, the cost of an NLE has decreased and is now as low as $239 yearly. This will
allow you to work with advanced editing and special effects. Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro,
and Apple Final Cut Pro are a few of the best tools available. Your decision should be based on your skill,
hardware, and personal taste. You can try out a few different NLEs before settling on one because many have
free or trial versions.
8. What Equipment Is Used To Edit Movies?
• Closed- Captioning and Subtitling
• Including closed captions and subtitles for hearing-impaired and language-minority audiences is becoming
increasingly common. Subtitling and closed captioning can set your work apart from the competition. This feature
is already integrated into some NLEs. Many software options exist, and some are even available at no cost.
• Editing Workstation
• For effective editing, you will need a screen with a high resolution, a wide display, and accurate colours. A high-
powered computer is also essential. Always make sure your computer meets the software’s minimum
requirements.
• Audio Equipment
• It would help if you had high-quality headphones and speakers at your desk. Studio monitors and professional
production speakers are required.
9. Conclusion
• Having a solid script to work with is important, and high-quality videography is vital, but editing may make or
break a film. Motion Edits – video editing agency is a one-stop shop for all of your filmmaking needs.
