There are three types of offences that
motorists can commit during the course of
either their personal or professional lives
that will affect their status as drivers.
These classifications are the five-year,
three-year, and two-year withdrawals.
When an offence falls under one of these
categories, a driver’s endorsement will be
withdrawn and become ineffective for the
duration described by the category. The
disqualification period begins upon the
driver’s conviction of the offence they are
accused.
Seemingly Common Errors
Two-year withdrawal offences are mostly
driving errors that may not necessarily cause
damage or casualty to people or property.
But, they are actions that professional and
responsible drivers should know better than
to commit, as they put pedestrians and
passengers at unnecessary risk.
The most common examples of these offences
are speeding, failure to yield the right of way,

The three-year withdrawal category is the shortest list, and is mostly concerned
with responsibility on the road. These violations include driving with a withdrawn or
suspended license, reckless driving, and negligent homicide with a vehicle.
Serious Errors
Five-year withdrawals are a collection of serious crimes and evasion, failure, or
refusal to submit to state requirements for drivers. This category includes the usual
suspects such as driving under the influence, as well as serious crimes like 2nd
degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle and 2nd
degree assault.
The failure and refusal of state required
chemical tests are also grounds for a
five-year withdrawal. These tests are put
in place to ensure the physical and
mental well-being of drivers. The failure
or refusal of such tests places the safety
of passengers and other motorists into
question, making drivers unfit drive
people professionally.
Unlike the other two categories, five-year
withdrawal convictions can still affect a
driver even if the violation occurred out
of state. Keeping a driver’s record clean
is a more difficult task than most people
anticipate, and it is a standard that many
drivers will not live up to. But, such
limits are in place for the mutually
assured safety of everyone on the road.
