New information regarding Troops To Trucks.
Interested in getting your FREE Commercial Driver’s License?
The Troops to Trucks program is an expedited and seamless process to assist veterans obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and ease the transition into civilian employment. Through a partnership with The Governor’s Office of Workforce Development and The Department of Labor, The Department of Driver Services (DDS) offers this program at several different DDS locations throughout the state. There are 3 ways to gain a CDL and start your new career!
1. Veterans who are in their 90 days before or after discharge and have a DA348 with Tractor Trailer endorsements can visit their local DDS center to take the written and free test up to 3 times. A driving test is not required. This is paid for by a grant through the U.S. Department of Labor.
2. Veterans who have not driven in a while and have a DA348 with Tractor Trailer endorsements can take a two week driving course at Albany Tech located at 1704 S. Slappey Blvd, Albany, GA 31701 and Atlanta Technical College located at 1560 Metropolitan Pkwy SW, Atlanta, GA 30310. Veterans will take a short refresher course with a written test and driving test to earn the CDL. This course does not qualify for the HOPE grant and the cost will vary depending on the school. This options costs more than the 8 week course.
3. Veterans with or without a tractor trailer endorsement can take an eight week course, pass the exam, and get connected with employment opportunities. This free course is recognized and endorsed by all truck companies. Eligible veterans can take this training for free. The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 shows various clauses and aspects about the vehicle permit.
Under Section 66 (Necessity for permits) the law states that “no owner of a motor vehicle shall use or permit the use of the vehicle as a transport vehicle in any public place whether or not such vehicle is actually carrying any passengers or goods save in accordance with the conditions of a permit granted or countersigned by a Regional or State Transport Authority or any prescribed authority authorizing him the use of the vehicle in that place in the manner in which the vehicle is being used.”

46. Understanding Suspensions The Transportation Guys DMV mailed on 04-06-98 to the driver that he/she was on driver DMV probation effective 4-6-98 by DMV. DMV mailed a suspension letter on 4/15/99 to the driver The effective date of the driver suspension is 4/19/99. If DMV does not list a thru date on for the suspension it is to be understood the suspension is final until further notification by DMV. Section of the vehicle code that the driver was suspended on 13551- Surrender of license to DMV. On 4/19/99 DMV terminated the driver suspension with the reason it was set aside. When you see action terminated (ACT-Term) listed it implies all actions have been terminated by DMV. Go to the status part of the DMV printout and identify if the driver is valid to operate a motor vehicle.
