The American GI Forum (AGIF)
Gregorio Garcia The American GI Forum or AGIF is a congressionally recognized civil rights organization that was founded on March 26, 1948 in
Corpus Christi, TX. The American GI Forum focuses primarily on issues such as education, job placement, and civil liberties. To truly understand
the AGIF you must understand its history and fundamental principles on which the organization was founded. When Dr. Hector P. Garcia returned
from service in World War II he was eager to peruse the American Dream. What he encountered was deep rooted prejudices and resolved to
overcome these injustices. Dr. Garcia observed that as Hispanics many of his fellow veterans had difficulties receiving the educational, monetary, and
medical benefits that they were entitled to. He embraced the values that our country was founded on and worked tirelessly to break down the social
barriers he encountered and to ensure that all veterans received equal benefits and care regardless of ethnicity. On March 26, 1948 Dr. Garcia was
joined by 700 of his fellow veterans to found the American GI Forum....show more content...
Some of the programs that the American GI Forum offers are the Veteran's Outreach program and the Service, Employment, Redevelopment–Jobs for
Progress, Inc. (SER). The American GI Forum also holds events throughout the country. The organization's motto is "Education is Our Freedom and
Freedom Should be Everybody's Business!" I believe that by understanding our history and educating our future generations we will continue to honor
the vision that the American GI Forum and Dr. Hector P. Garcia. The American GI Forum has brought down the barriers and paved the road to the

How Is Zoey Different
My sisters and I are completely different; we cause many problems with each other, which causes us to get into trouble by our parents, but our parents
still love us no matter what.
Not only are humans different; dogs are different too. My dogs, Zoey and Rosie, are both loved the same, but they have many differences. Zoey is
different from Rosie. Zoey is a mutt. My mom calls her a Pomapooski because
Zoey has three different dog breeds mixed in her: Pomeranian, Poodle, and Shitzu. Zoey was a
Mother's Day gift for my mom. Zoey was such an adorable little puppy! When my parents got her at Sadie's Flea Market in Dothan, Alabama, my
mom sent me a picture of a little ball of fur sticking its head outside of the pocket of my dad's khakis. When they came home that afternoon with her
she was very much–loved on. My sisters and I couldn't put her down that night because we all wanted to hold, and love on her. We didn't give her a
name until the next day. She needed the perfect name that fit her. That's when she got the name
Zoey. Zoey is white all over with a few brown spots, or patches. She has a long white fluffy tail that she likes to chase in circles, like Angel off of Lady
and the Tramp ll. She also has floppy ears.
As she's gotten older she's not as small anymore and she's bigger than Rosie. Zoey probably weighs about a good ten to fifteen pounds. Zoey is very
energetic and playful. She's always wanting to chew on someone's hand or jumping on Rosie to get her to

Essay about Free Speech
In order to find truth to anything, one must make multiple suggestions, ask many questions, and sometimes ponder the unspeakable. Without doing so,
there would be no process of elimination; therefore, truth would be virtually unattainable. Now, in our attempts to either find truth, express our beliefs
and opinions, or generally use the rights we are given constitutionally, we are often being criticized and even reprimanded. Our freedom to voice our
opinion(s) is being challenged, as critics of free speech are taking offense to what seems like anything and everything merely controversial and
arguably prejudice. As people continue to strive for a nation free of prejudice and discrimination, where everyone is equal, safe and...show more

More and more people are finding plenty of (what they consider) bias and prejudice to be offended by.
The bigger issue regarding our right to free speech has to do with censorship and what may potentially become of it. If we continue to strive for a
society where we can say whatever we would like, just as long as it doesn't offend anyone, we are losing our rights altogether. Rauch quotes Salman
Rushdie in his defense to allegedly offending millions of people, where he asked: "What is freedom of expression? Without the freedom to offend, it
ceases to exist"(6). Simply stated, it is nearly impossible to say anything that wouldn't offend someone; Everyone has their own perception of what
they consider offensive. Being asked to refrain from using offensive language basically disables you from speaking of anything controversial and
therefore we are forced to be idle–minded automatons. Our search for truth and reasoning will be forced to halt as we will no longer be allowed to
wonder out loud. If the intellectuals, geniuses, and scientists of our past hadn't been free to ponder the unreasonable, one could assume we wouldn't be
where we are today. For no reason should we be forced to silence our thoughts or not speak of anything unacceptable; the result could be far more
disastrous than offending people.
Naturally, people can only hope for peace and happiness, but attempting to achieve it through censoring any

Papers On Susan B Anthony
Susan B. Anthony
On February 15, 1820 in Adams, Massachusetts, a woman by the name of Susan Brownell Anthony was born to parents Daniel and Lucy (Read)
Anthony. She was the second born of a strongly rooted Quaker family of eight (Hist.Bio.–1). Because they lived in a Quaker neighborhood, Susan was
not heavily exposed to slavery. The family made anti–slavery talks an almost daily conversation over the dinner table. She also saw men and women
on the same level (Stoddard 36). "A hard working father, who was not only a cotton manufacturer, but aQuaker Abolitionist also, prevented his
children from what he called childish things such as toys, games and music. He felt that they would distract his children from reaching their peak of

Together they published "The Revolution", a New York liberal weekly magazine. This magazine would soon parish and put Susan B.Anthony in debt of
10,000 dollars (Boynick)!
According to author, Hope Stoddard, Susan B. Anthony was a firm, upright person. She wasn't afraid to show it to anyone and everyone who wanted
to know how she felt. One day, during a marriage custody conference, an abolitionist by the name of Rev. A. D. Mayo asked Anthony, in modified
words, by what means could she take part in discussions on marriage when she was not married herself. She responded to this by saying, in revised
words, that he was not a slave, so maybe he should not be taking part in discussions on slavery. It was this kind of determination that led Susan B.
Anthony towards gaining women the right to have equal guardianship of their children (Dorr 55).
In a period of about twenty years, Anthony supported the United States over the
Confederate States of America before and during the civil war. Her reason for taking a side during the war was not only to see the slaves be free.
Anthony wanted to see all men equal. She had a plan (Hist. Works).
A couple years after the Civil War had ended, African American men were given the right to vote and the right to attempt to live the American dream.
With this information, Anthony took off. She felt that women should be granted at least the same

The World Economic Forum ( Wef )
"We have a single mission, to protect and hand on the planet to the next generation," said the President of France, François Hollande, at the World
Economic Forum (WEF). But are humans acting in order to overcome this mission? Since the new technological and productive developments,
conditioned especially after the First Industrial Revolution, a great charge of harmful impacts was influencing the sustainability of the planet.
However, the casualness that man has undertaken in its actions towards the environment and even towards his fellow have placed him face to face with
an imminent danger. In this imminent danger, it's possible to highlight the extreme weather events resulting from environmental disturbances that have
been accumulated by the society, and also by the increasing socio–economic inequalities polarized by economic globalization. In relation to several
climatic manifestations of extreme proportion, it's easy to realize that in a time perspective the consequences that today seem to be just momentary
they actually extend in space and time from direct or indirect dynamics. That's why for at least three decades, human activity has been the main factor in
climate change because of its greenhouse gas emissions, its growing consumption, and its energy use.
The largest known contribution in climate change comes from the burning of fossil fuels, which releases carbon dioxide gas to the atmosphere. With the
increase of these gases in the atmosphere, the greenhouse effect

Discussion Forum: Interpersonal Skills
Discussion Forum– Interpersonal skills
Interpersonal skills sometimes referred to as soft skills, communication skills, social skills, people skills, or life skills, are skills that we all develop
most often unconsciously from our early childhood (What are interpersonal skills, n.d). Interpersonal skills are part of emotional intelligence and are
needed for everyone who wishes to climb the ladder of success. People who possess interpersonal skills are calm, optimistic, articulate, friendly and
often charismatic (Top 10, n.d).
Many skills fall under the category of interpersonal skills. They are listening, assertiveness, negotiation, feedback, persuasion, interviewing, and
coaching. In addition to public speaking, counseling, selling, supervising people, self–management (which includes anger management, camouflaging
frustration, emanating calmness), tact, keeping face, self–confidence, positive attitude, communication (verbal speaking, non–verbal speaking, listening

Discussion forum unit 1 sociology
Question: what do you make of Karl Marx's contributions to sociology? What perceptions of Marx have you been exposed to in your society, and how
do those perceptions influence your views.
Introduction
I thought the concept of sociology referred to how people socialize in communities. Little did I know that sociology study all aspects of life, including
how society and people affect each other positively or negatively. I also did not know that sociology looks at what makes people exhibit behaviours
that may deviate from the set norms and values of society.
What do you make of Karl Marx's contributions to sociology?
Marx was an economist and viewed social events from a materialistic or economic perspective....show more content...
He exposed the injustice and corrupt system characterised by capitalistic economies where the motives and intentions are to maximise profits at the
expense of workers. The result was an income gap between the 'haves' and the 'have not'. The gap grew wider as the owners of the factories became
richer and the workers grew poorer, even though the workers were directly involved in the production of goods and services. Even today, this
inequality results in social instability and conflicts in our society because of the uneven distributions of resources.
Feminism theory .
This is another sociological theory that addresses the emancipation among women because most socities look at women as objects of abuse.
According to women sociologist Martineau, feminist sociology has focused on power relationships and inequalities between men and women. How can
the condition faced by women be addressed,(Little, 2014, p .31). Marx's critique of capitalism and the feminist of patriarchy for example led to very
interesting insights into how structures of power and inequality work, but from a point of view that sees only the most revolutionary transformation of
society as a solution,(Little, 2014 , p. 32).
What perception of Marx have I been exposed to in my

Online Teen Forum Review Essay
The Book & Reader forums is a place designed for users of all ages to discuss books. Within the forums of this website there is one forum described
as being intended for children and young adult books. This forum seems to receive a limited amount of traffic. A search using the forum's search
feature revealed that since the beginning of the year there have been 33 posts. While some of these posts were written by adults, I also a detected
several that appeared to have been written by teens. The forum does not require members to post their age; however, in older posts I noted that several
teens mentioned their age. Posters are only able to be identified by as much information as they are willing to share, so it is difficult to determine...show

Also, individuals on this forum often reply to original threads started years ago. Unlike some forums, this is actually encouraged by the staff members,
but it makes following a thread difficult at times.
Compared to Traditional Reviews The reviews I read on the forum were less concerned with a succinct, comprehensive overview of the book like one
would expect in a professional review on a site like Kirkus. Rather, they focused on an emotional attachment to the book as a reason to review or
recommend it to others. For example, in a discussion on Charlotte's Web, one individual explains that she hated the book because she was forced to
read it several times in elementary school (evie, 2004). Although the opinions on the forum were hardly reviews in the professional sense of the word,
I was surprised that they so frequently included some sort of visceral reaction to the book. Often there was little explanation concerning the particulars
of the story and the author chose to focus instead on the fact that a main character made them angry or that the ending was unexpected or happy. It is
difficult to determine which review has the greater authority. If an individual were simply trying to discern whether the plot would be interesting, then
certainly a professional review would be more authoritative. However, the conversational reviews I read between friends reminded me of the power of
a personal opinion. While

How Can I Contribute To Community
How have I contributed to my School and Community? I've contributed in many ways for the school, but, not as much as I do for my community. I
have done things for my community and my school that didn't even have to do because I just wanted to. I've done more community things than did for
my school. For example, last march, I participated in the school's talent show. I helped with the costumes, helped paint, and picked songs (for me).
With the paint, we all helped make these buffalo like costumes, also my Mom helped me make This magnifying Giraffe costume. This is why I have
done little for my school. That's one reason how I helped Contribute with the school talent show. I've still have done more community things than I did

is one reason how I helped with the community. Another reason that I have helped with the community is during the cold winters we have here in
Ohio, I shovel people's driveways, sidewalks, and porches. I have done these things without even asking and I did it just because I felt like it. I did
another favor for my neighbors by also doing their whole driveway. I even did a lady that lives across the street from me because I felt like being
nice and productive. this is another reason how and why I helped with the community I have done a lot of other things but, there is one more main
reason on how I helped both, the school and community. last year, when I was in the 7th grade, I signed up for a community service in Mrs.

Women Equality Essay
The concept of equality between men and women has been heavily deliberated for the past few decades, but as we discussed in class throughout the
week, it's become increasingly clear that people have drastically different ideas on what constitutes equality. Originally, when posed the question, I
brought up the more prominent issues facing women in our society, politically, socially, and economically. Politically, I believe that for men and
women to be equal, women need to be proportionately represented in government, from local offices to the oval office. I personally discovered the
importance of this issue when I realized that women make up less than 20% of Congress, thus making men the primary deciders of women's issues.
This is a...show more content...
My classmate, Elise Favvia, added to this by dictating how, as a STEM major, she often sees women underrepresented in the field as well as noting
that many other western nations allow women paid maternity leave, while the United States has yet to. Overall, these were my initial ideas on the
conditions for equality of men and women in our society. However, through my small group discussion and class discussion, I realized that I focused
on the surface issues but I overlooked the deeper underlying issues that should be addressed. For instance, Kexin Li brought up the idea
intersectionality. She explained how it was necessary to recognize that women are not a single, homogenous group, but rather a diverse group with
sub–sections that each have their own issues. This led her to discussing the difference between equity and equality, as equity implies noting people's
differences and reaching equality through helping each group with their distinct needs, while equality implies treating everyone equally, which, now
knowing the concept of intersectionality, might not actually create equality of the sexes. I deeply resonated with these ideas, as I had heard of
intersectionality before, but I had never thought of it as a "condition for equality", however, Kexin Li's explanation convinced me otherwise. An idea
from the class discussion that resonated with me was Alexis Availes' idea of "leadership rhetoric", specifically in public documents. She

Unit 3 Discussion Forum Assignment
Unit 3 Discussion Forum Assignment by Jessica Lofton (Instructor) – Wednesday, 20 April 2016, 9:01 AM
There are always multiple questions and concerns regarding peer assessments. So let's open a discussion about the following:
1.What criteria do you consider to be of more importance? Ideas, proper English grammar or both? Support your answer.
The mind that can generate ideas is very important but the use of proper English grammar is no less significant. One of the main objectives of a
University education is to develop the communication skills of its students. An idea has no value when it cannot be expressed in the English language
that is most widely spoken in the world and it's the main language of the academia and scholarly research. Proper skills in English grammar gives
wings to ideas. The mind that can grow ideas is high in demand but you need to know proper syntax of language to cultivate the idea. When a
University graduate speaks and writes English flawlessly he or she is leaving traces that can be tracked back to his or her University education and
perhaps leaving a mark in the history or a dent in the Universe.
2.How would you assess a forum response or a peer assignment which is counter to your personal values? What feedback would you give in this
situation?...show more content...
This generates a plethora of views toward a single object or subject that gets engraved in our psychology and becomes our personal values. I strongly
believe that one should be completely open to understanding and realize that there can be different views or approaches toward a single matter. One
should be egoless and comprehending to the counterpart in order understand the point of view. Even, if then there are contradictions, one should
analyze and discuss the topic with convincing arguments that may lead to a uniform

There was also concern if current education can develop a nurse's preparedness in delivering quality care (Griffiths et al, 2012). One of the

individual should be [evaluated] and their needs be assessed and implemented on that particular individual...I just feel it's a conveyor belt system. Get
them in and get them out sort of thing" (Griffiths et al, 2012). In another qualitative review which explored nurse's perspectives on patient–centred care,
suggested time management was the largest barrier preventing them from communicating effectively with their patients (Chan et al, 2012). One nurse
stated "sometimes, I have to deal with 20 patients in one single shift... if one needs 10 minutes and there are 20 patients in total, how much time would
we have to spend on this? Don't we need to do other tasks?" (Chan et al, 2012). According to the Australian Commission on safety and quality in health

The Pros And Cons Of Public Forums
The auditorium should be treated not as a limited public forum, but instead as a designated public forum. First, the difference between the four distinct

Reflection On Social Justice
Georg Christoph Lichtenberg once said "I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I can say is that they must change if they are to
get better." Injustices can be explained as something that is not to everybody's benefit, or simply something this is unfair. Going into this class, I did
not know much about social justice or cities in general. After being in it for a short 3 weeks, I have learned a lot of new material and am excited to
learn more. I believe that social justice is a combination of the opportunities and freedoms within the different socioeconomic classes.
Growing up so close to Des Moines, I feel as if I have had plenty of experiences all of which helped shape my views on social justice. I have lived in

There are two things that immediately come to mind when I think about social justice in the real world. Education is one. Typically, people are
more prone to go to college if their parents or siblings go to college. Going back to the topic of East Des Moines, East high school is not a school
that is looked well upon. The teachers are underpaid and most of the students do not care about their education enough to go to class everyday.
Knowing this, students from schools like that are less likely to go on to college and get an education. This then leads to them not getting good jobs
and making enough money to support themselves. I believe that this is an injustice because those students do not choose to go to schools like that, but
they get started off on the wrong foot right from the start. People look down on them because of the school they go to. The other thing I think about
when I hear the word social justice is Racism. Segregation is something that most people don't think is still a problem, but unfortunately it is. "They
view segregation as an unfortunate holdover from a racist past, one that is fading progressively overtime" (Massey 1). African American people that live
in rougher neighborhoods, Chicago for example, are usually in the lower socioeconomic class. Being an African American in the lower
socioeconomic class makes it easy for white people to look down on them. Briana Gibson grew up in the rough part of

The Forum Pompeii
The Forum Historians consider the Forum to be the 'centre of Pompeian life' therefore it is an important aspect to study as numerous buildings and
many events occurred there. From the latest evidence, it is believed that the Pompeian Forum was undergoing a 'comprehensive, vigorous and
ambitious post–earthquake restoration.' (Bradley. 2005, p.87). The Forum at Herculaneum, however, is still buried under the town of Resina and
therefore there is not enough physical evidence to provide a great depth of information. Studies were concentrated on the Forum at Pompeii. The Forum

building supplies stored there.' However in the last decade, as noted in Pamela Bradley's book, it had been repaired and in working order when the
eruption occurred. The Sanctuary of the Public Lares was located in the North–East of the Forum in Pompeii. The Lares Publici were the protectors of
the crossroads (compita). Historians argue whether the building was either commenced after the earthquake of 62 AD or almost fully reconstructed
as a dedication to the tutelary gods of Pompeii due to the recent misfortune. The architecture was quite unusual showing changing designs. The
temple had no roof and had a floor with coloured marble arranged in a geometric pattern. It had no wall on the Forum side that left it entirely open. It
could be entered through a portico adjoining the colonnade of the Forum. On entering the temple there was two alcoves where statues of the Lares
would most likely have stood. Remains show a centred altar. The rear wall reveals a niche where statues of the town's gods would have been

The American GI Forum (AGIF)

  • 1. The American GI Forum (AGIF) Gregorio Garcia The American GI Forum or AGIF is a congressionally recognized civil rights organization that was founded on March 26, 1948 in Corpus Christi, TX. The American GI Forum focuses primarily on issues such as education, job placement, and civil liberties. To truly understand the AGIF you must understand its history and fundamental principles on which the organization was founded. When Dr. Hector P. Garcia returned from service in World War II he was eager to peruse the American Dream. What he encountered was deep rooted prejudices and resolved to overcome these injustices. Dr. Garcia observed that as Hispanics many of his fellow veterans had difficulties receiving the educational, monetary, and medical benefits that they were entitled to. He embraced the values that our country was founded on and worked tirelessly to break down the social barriers he encountered and to ensure that all veterans received equal benefits and care regardless of ethnicity. On March 26, 1948 Dr. Garcia was joined by 700 of his fellow veterans to found the American GI Forum....show more content... Some of the programs that the American GI Forum offers are the Veteran's Outreach program and the Service, Employment, Redevelopment–Jobs for Progress, Inc. (SER). The American GI Forum also holds events throughout the country. The organization's motto is "Education is Our Freedom and Freedom Should be Everybody's Business!" I believe that by understanding our history and educating our future generations we will continue to honor the vision that the American GI Forum and Dr. Hector P. Garcia. • 2. How Is Zoey Different My sisters and I are completely different; we cause many problems with each other, which causes us to get into trouble by our parents, but our parents still love us no matter what. Not only are humans different; dogs are different too. My dogs, Zoey and Rosie, are both loved the same, but they have many differences. Zoey is different from Rosie. Zoey is a mutt. My mom calls her a Pomapooski because Zoey has three different dog breeds mixed in her: Pomeranian, Poodle, and Shitzu. Zoey was a Mother's Day gift for my mom. Zoey was such an adorable little puppy! When my parents got her at Sadie's Flea Market in Dothan, Alabama, my mom sent me a picture of a little ball of fur sticking its head outside of the pocket of my dad's khakis. When they came home that afternoon with her she was very much–loved on. My sisters and I couldn't put her down that night because we all wanted to hold, and love on her. We didn't give her a name until the next day. She needed the perfect name that fit her. That's when she got the name Zoey. Zoey is white all over with a few brown spots, or patches. She has a long white fluffy tail that she likes to chase in circles, like Angel off of Lady and the Tramp ll. She also has floppy ears. As she's gotten older she's not as small anymore and she's bigger than Rosie. Zoey probably weighs about a good ten to fifteen pounds. Zoey is very energetic and playful. She's always wanting to chew on someone's hand or jumping on Rosie to get her to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay about Free Speech In order to find truth to anything, one must make multiple suggestions, ask many questions, and sometimes ponder the unspeakable. Without doing so, there would be no process of elimination; therefore, truth would be virtually unattainable. Now, in our attempts to either find truth, express our beliefs and opinions, or generally use the rights we are given constitutionally, we are often being criticized and even reprimanded. Our freedom to voice our opinion(s) is being challenged, as critics of free speech are taking offense to what seems like anything and everything merely controversial and arguably prejudice. As people continue to strive for a nation free of prejudice and discrimination, where everyone is equal, safe and...show more content... More and more people are finding plenty of (what they consider) bias and prejudice to be offended by. The bigger issue regarding our right to free speech has to do with censorship and what may potentially become of it. If we continue to strive for a society where we can say whatever we would like, just as long as it doesn't offend anyone, we are losing our rights altogether. Rauch quotes Salman Rushdie in his defense to allegedly offending millions of people, where he asked: "What is freedom of expression? Without the freedom to offend, it ceases to exist"(6). Simply stated, it is nearly impossible to say anything that wouldn't offend someone; Everyone has their own perception of what they consider offensive. Being asked to refrain from using offensive language basically disables you from speaking of anything controversial and therefore we are forced to be idle–minded automatons. Our search for truth and reasoning will be forced to halt as we will no longer be allowed to wonder out loud. If the intellectuals, geniuses, and scientists of our past hadn't been free to ponder the unreasonable, one could assume we wouldn't be where we are today. For no reason should we be forced to silence our thoughts or not speak of anything unacceptable; the result could be far more disastrous than offending people. Naturally, people can only hope for peace and happiness, but attempting to achieve it through censoring any Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Papers On Susan B Anthony Susan B. Anthony On February 15, 1820 in Adams, Massachusetts, a woman by the name of Susan Brownell Anthony was born to parents Daniel and Lucy (Read) Anthony. She was the second born of a strongly rooted Quaker family of eight (Hist.Bio.–1). Because they lived in a Quaker neighborhood, Susan was not heavily exposed to slavery. The family made anti–slavery talks an almost daily conversation over the dinner table. She also saw men and women on the same level (Stoddard 36). "A hard working father, who was not only a cotton manufacturer, but aQuaker Abolitionist also, prevented his children from what he called childish things such as toys, games and music. He felt that they would distract his children from reaching their peak of ...show more content... Together they published "The Revolution", a New York liberal weekly magazine. This magazine would soon parish and put Susan B.Anthony in debt of 10,000 dollars (Boynick)! According to author, Hope Stoddard, Susan B. Anthony was a firm, upright person. She wasn't afraid to show it to anyone and everyone who wanted to know how she felt. One day, during a marriage custody conference, an abolitionist by the name of Rev. A. D. Mayo asked Anthony, in modified words, by what means could she take part in discussions on marriage when she was not married herself. She responded to this by saying, in revised words, that he was not a slave, so maybe he should not be taking part in discussions on slavery. It was this kind of determination that led Susan B. Anthony towards gaining women the right to have equal guardianship of their children (Dorr 55). In a period of about twenty years, Anthony supported the United States over the Confederate States of America before and during the civil war.

The World Economic Forum ( Wef ) "We have a single mission, to protect and hand on the planet to the next generation," said the President of France, FranГ§ois Hollande, at the World Economic Forum (WEF). But are humans acting in order to overcome this mission? Since the new technological and productive developments, conditioned especially after the First Industrial Revolution, a great charge of harmful impacts was influencing the sustainability of the planet. However, the casualness that man has undertaken in its actions towards the environment and even towards his fellow have placed him face to face with an imminent danger. In this imminent danger, it's possible to highlight the extreme weather events resulting from environmental disturbances that have been accumulated by the society, and also by the increasing socio–economic inequalities polarized by economic globalization. In relation to several climatic manifestations of extreme proportion, it's easy to realize that in a time perspective the consequences that today seem to be just momentary they actually extend in space and time from direct or indirect dynamics. That's why for at least three decades, human activity has been the main factor in climate change because of its greenhouse gas emissions, its growing consumption, and its energy use. The largest known contribution in climate change comes from the burning of fossil fuels, which releases carbon dioxide gas to the atmosphere. With the increase of these gases in the atmosphere, the greenhouse effect Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 10. Discussion forum unit 1 sociology Question: what do you make of Karl Marx's contributions to sociology? What perceptions of Marx have you been exposed to in your society, and how do those perceptions influence your views. Introduction I thought the concept of sociology referred to how people socialize in communities. Little did I know that sociology study all aspects of life, including how society and people affect each other positively or negatively. I also did not know that sociology looks at what makes people exhibit behaviours that may deviate from the set norms and values of society. What do you make of Karl Marx's contributions to sociology? Marx was an economist and viewed social events from a materialistic or economic perspective....show more content... He exposed the injustice and corrupt system characterised by capitalistic economies where the motives and intentions are to maximise profits at the expense of workers. The result was an income gap between the 'haves' and the 'have not'. The gap grew wider as the owners of the factories became richer and the workers grew poorer, even though the workers were directly involved in the production of goods and services. Even today, this inequality results in social instability and conflicts in our society because of the uneven distributions of resources. Feminism theory . This is another sociological theory that addresses the emancipation among women because most socities look at women as objects of abuse. According to women sociologist Martineau, feminist sociology has focused on power relationships and inequalities between men and women. How can the condition faced by women be addressed,(Little, 2014, p .31). Marx's critique of capitalism and the feminist of patriarchy for example led to very interesting insights into how structures of power and inequality work, but from a point of view that sees only the most revolutionary transformation of society as a solution,(Little, 2014 , p. 32). Also, individuals on this forum often reply to original threads started years ago. Unlike some forums, this is actually encouraged by the staff members, but it makes following a thread difficult at times. Compared to Traditional Reviews The reviews I read on the forum were less concerned with a succinct, comprehensive overview of the book like one would expect in a professional review on a site like Kirkus. Rather, they focused on an emotional attachment to the book as a reason to review or recommend it to others. For example, in a discussion on Charlotte's Web, one individual explains that she hated the book because she was forced to read it several times in elementary school (evie, 2004). Although the opinions on the forum were hardly reviews in the professional sense of the word, I was surprised that they so frequently included some sort of visceral reaction to the book. Often there was little explanation concerning the particulars of the story and the author chose to focus instead on the fact that a main character made them angry or that the ending was unexpected or happy. It is difficult to determine which review has the greater authority. If an individual were simply trying to discern whether the plot would be interesting, then certainly a professional review would be more authoritative. However, the conversational reviews I read between friends reminded me of the power of a personal opinion. While Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 13. How Can I Contribute To Community How have I contributed to my School and Community? I've contributed in many ways for the school, but, not as much as I do for my community. I have done things for my community and my school that didn't even have to do because I just wanted to. I've done more community things than did for my school. For example, last march, I participated in the school's talent show. I helped with the costumes, helped paint, and picked songs (for me). With the paint, we all helped make these buffalo like costumes, also my Mom helped me make This magnifying Giraffe costume. This is why I have done little for my school. That's one reason how I helped Contribute with the school talent show. I've still have done more community things than I did for my school....show more content... There is actually a lot of things that I have done, but, not as important as the ones i'm about to tell you. I've mowed the grass the grass for people on my street. I have had to mow my neighbor's yard. This is because his back was hurting and he asked me if I could do it when I wasn't busy. This is one reason how I helped with the community. Another reason that I have helped with the community is during the cold winters we have here in Ohio, I shovel people's driveways, sidewalks, and porches. I have done these things without even asking and I did it just because I felt like it. I did another favor for my neighbors by also doing their whole driveway. I even did a lady that lives across the street from me because I felt like being nice and productive. this is another reason how and why I helped with the community I have done a lot of other things but, there is one more main reason on how I helped both, the school and community. last year, when I was in the 7th grade, I signed up for a community service in Mrs. Huggins class to feed and serve the elderly. We helped pass out food, serve them drinks, clean and put away dishes, and after that, we got rewarded pizza. This is the last main reason how and why I helped with the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Women Equality Essay The concept of equality between men and women has been heavily deliberated for the past few decades, but as we discussed in class throughout the week, it's become increasingly clear that people have drastically different ideas on what constitutes equality. Originally, when posed the question, I brought up the more prominent issues facing women in our society, politically, socially, and economically. Politically, I believe that for men and women to be equal, women need to be proportionately represented in government, from local offices to the oval office. I personally discovered the importance of this issue when I realized that women make up less than 20% of Congress, thus making men the primary deciders of women's issues. This is a...show more content... My classmate, Elise Favvia, added to this by dictating how, as a STEM major, she often sees women underrepresented in the field as well as noting that many other western nations allow women paid maternity leave, while the United States has yet to. Overall, these were my initial ideas on the conditions for equality of men and women in our society. However, through my small group discussion and class discussion, I realized that I focused on the surface issues but I overlooked the deeper underlying issues that should be addressed. For instance, Kexin Li brought up the idea intersectionality. She explained how it was necessary to recognize that women are not a single, homogenous group, but rather a diverse group with sub–sections that each have their own issues. This led her to discussing the difference between equity and equality, as equity implies noting people's differences and reaching equality through helping each group with their distinct needs, while equality implies treating everyone equally, which, now knowing the concept of intersectionality, might not actually create equality of the sexes. I deeply resonated with these ideas, as I had heard of intersectionality before, but I had never thought of it as a "condition for equality", however, Kexin Li's explanation convinced me otherwise. An idea from the class discussion that resonated with me was Alexis Availes' idea of "leadership rhetoric", specifically in public documents. She Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Unit 3 Discussion Forum Assignment Unit 3 Discussion Forum Assignment by Jessica Lofton (Instructor) – Wednesday, 20 April 2016, 9:01 AM There are always multiple questions and concerns regarding peer assessments. So let's open a discussion about the following: 1.What criteria do you consider to be of more importance? Ideas, proper English grammar or both? Support your answer. The mind that can generate ideas is very important but the use of proper English grammar is no less significant. One of the main objectives of a University education is to develop the communication skills of its students. An idea has no value when it cannot be expressed in the English language that is most widely spoken in the world and it's the main language of the academia and scholarly research. Proper skills in English grammar gives wings to ideas. The mind that can grow ideas is high in demand but you need to know proper syntax of language to cultivate the idea. When a University graduate speaks and writes English flawlessly he or she is leaving traces that can be tracked back to his or her University education and perhaps leaving a mark in the history or a dent in the Universe. 2.How would you assess a forum response or a peer assignment which is counter to your personal values? What feedback would you give in this situation?...show more content... Furthermore another participant stated "...each individual should be [evaluated] and their needs be assessed and implemented on that particular individual...I just feel it's a conveyor belt system. In another qualitative review which explored nurse's perspectives on patient–centred care, suggested time management was the largest barrier preventing them from communicating effectively with their patients (Chan et al, 2012). One nurse stated "sometimes, I have to deal with 20 patients in one single shift... if one needs 10 minutes and there are 20 patients in total, how much time would we have to spend on this? Don't we need to do other tasks?" (Chan et al, 2012). My sister Abbey and I are only eighteen months apart and have shared a room for as long as I can remember. We have polar opposite personalities and would fight constantly growing up. I am very introverted, bring in large groups of people drains me. I like having time to myself but can be extroverted in social situations. I am a very easy–going flexible person and I try to avoid conflict as much as possible. While Abbey is extremely extroverted. She is the life of the party and is not afraid to state her opinion. Growing up we were always getting into arguments over everything. Arguing over who got to sit shotgun in the car, who got the television remote, or whose friends could sleep over. My little brother Timmy is five years younger than me and is one of my best friends. We have fairly similar personalities and almost never fought. This was not the case for Abbey and Timmy. Both having strong personalities and being very strong willed they were always fighting, a considerably more than Abbey and I did. Like psychologist, Sulloway suggested conflict was extremely prevalent in my life growing up and states that it was a force that helped shape my personality. I was constantly trying to keep the peace between my sister and brother and learned how to stand up for myself and express my own option. • 18. The Pros And Cons Of Public Forums The auditorium should be treated not as a limited public forum, but instead as a designated public forum. First, the difference between the four distinct forums in which speech is regulated must be established. The Cornelius Court established the first three forums. Cornelius v. As advocated in the Lamb argument, because of the many similarities that the group shares it is clear that the district has opened the School up to a wide variety of communicative purposes. The amount of examples the Church can offer, or the amount of exceptions the School can make is immaterial. What matters is that the Church shares traits with accepted groups; therefore the School does not have a valid reason to maintain a limited public forum. This makes the School a designated public forum. Now the same rules that govern traditional public forums Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Reflection On Social Justice Georg Christoph Lichtenberg once said "I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I can say is that they must change if they are to get better." Injustices can be explained as something that is not to everybody's benefit, or simply something this is unfair. Going into this class, I did not know much about social justice or cities in general. After being in it for a short 3 weeks, I have learned a lot of new material and am excited to learn more. I believe that social justice is a combination of the opportunities and freedoms within the different socioeconomic classes. Growing up so close to Des Moines, I feel as if I have had plenty of experiences all of which helped shape my views on social justice. I have lived in ...show more content... There are two things that immediately come to mind when I think about social justice in the real world. Education is one. Typically, people are more prone to go to college if their parents or siblings go to college. Going back to the topic of East Des Moines, East high school is not a school that is looked well upon. The teachers are underpaid and most of the students do not care about their education enough to go to class everyday. Knowing this, students from schools like that are less likely to go on to college and get an education. This then leads to them not getting good jobs and making enough money to support themselves. I believe that this is an injustice because those students do not choose to go to schools like that, but they get started off on the wrong foot right from the start. People look down on them because of the school they go to. The other thing I think about when I hear the word social justice is Racism. Segregation is something that most people don't think is still a problem, but unfortunately it is. "They view segregation as an unfortunate holdover from a racist past, one that is fading progressively overtime" (Massey 1). African American people that live in rougher neighborhoods, Chicago for example, are usually in the lower socioeconomic class. Being an African American in the lower socioeconomic class makes it easy for white people to look down on them. Briana Gibson grew up in the rough part of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. The Forum Pompeii The Forum Historians consider the Forum to be the 'centre of Pompeian life' therefore it is an important aspect to study as numerous buildings and many events occurred there. From the latest evidence, it is believed that the Pompeian Forum was undergoing a 'comprehensive, vigorous and ambitious post–earthquake restoration.' (Bradley. 2005, p.87). The Forum at Herculaneum, however, is still buried under the town of Resina and therefore there is not enough physical evidence to provide a great depth of information. Studies were concentrated on the Forum at Pompeii. The Forum dates back to the 2nd century BCE. It underwent numerous alterations during the city's history and at the time of the eruption was in the process of receiving an...show more content... 2005, p.152) and held sacrificial equipment and Pompeii's public treasures. The temple was severely damaged in the 62AD earthquake. It was described in Pompeii: The Vanished City (1992, p60) as being 'turned into a workshop, with uncut blocks of basalt and stonecutting tools, and other building supplies stored there.' However in the last decade, as noted in Pamela Bradley's book, it had been repaired and in working order when the eruption occurred. The Sanctuary of the Public Lares was located in the North–East of the Forum in Pompeii. The Lares Publici were the protectors of the crossroads (compita). Historians argue whether the building was either commenced after the earthquake of 62 AD or almost fully reconstructed as a dedication to the tutelary gods of Pompeii due to the recent misfortune. The architecture was quite unusual showing changing designs. The temple had no roof and had a floor with coloured marble arranged in a geometric pattern. It had no wall on the Forum side that left it entirely open. It could be entered through a portico adjoining the colonnade of the Forum. On entering the temple there was two alcoves where statues of the Lares would most likely have stood. Remains show a centred altar. The rear wall reveals a niche where statues of the town's gods would have been positioned.
