Things to avoid in essay writing!
Write a creative title for your essay
Consider that the title is the first opportunity you have to inform your reader about the thesis of your essay
NEVER just write “Evaluation Essay”
Capitalize the title correctly
Format the essay with double-spacing and page numbers
FIRST THINGS FIRST
The purpose of an introduction is to:
engage the reader
provide background information
present the thesis
Unless necessary for contextualization, save the evidence to support your claims in the body paragraphs.
Don't serve the main meal at the same time as the appetizer!
Too many details in the introduction:
"Air travel is a form of travel in vehicles that can sustain flight". (Really? No kidding!)
Don't start your essay with a definition of what is probably unnecessary: obesity, global warming, cell phones, the internet, etc.
The purpose of simply taking up space is too obvious and wastes opportunity to craft useful sentences that further your essay.
ONLY use a definition if writing about something truly obscure.
Avoid Useless "definitions"
The trick to avoid these words: insert “as opposed to?”
Basically, very, really, literally, truly, personally (as opposed to...?)

Using Words that Do Not Add Meaning
In this essay I will prove...
I will discuss...
As said in the previous paragraph….
As mentioned before...
Avoid these space fillers! Instead - just write what you are saying.
Don't waste space saying what you WILL write about or what you already wrote.
Example:
Wrong: In this essay I will argue that cell phones should not be used while drive.
Better: Cell phones should not be used while driving.
Announcing Yourself to the Reader
Did you ever get tired of reading essays with questions?
Do you think that these questions would be stronger written as statements?
Are all the questions necessary?
Do they engage the reader?
Especially in a repeating pattern: did you ever wonder, did you ever think, why is it that... blah blah blah?
STOP!
And if writing a question, remember to use a question mark when creating a question, even if it's a rhetorical question.
Rhetorical Questions
Avoid Pointing the Camera at Yourself:
I think, I believe, I feel, in my opinion...
Write what you think in a statement
The reader will know what you think by what you write.
ONLY use “I” when framing a direct response:
“I agree/concede/argue/claim…”
Remove yourself
You didn't actually write the paper, but you're really good at introducing other people's quotes!
Stringing them together is almost writing a paper, right?
Not quite!
The reader needs to hear your voice and your ideas that are supported by the evidence, not replaced by them.
After using a quote, be sure to explain how it supports the claim in the topic sentence and the thesis.
Don’t .

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
1. THAT'S THE WAY TO ESSAY!
The essay for college application gives a sense of anxiety and fright to most of the
students. It isn’t an easy job, after all it plays a major role in deciding your fate to
admission. Your essay not only showcases your skills, it also reveals something important
about you that your grades and test scores can't—your personality. It is only in your hands
(quite literally!) to have full control on your essay unlike every other aspect of the
application. Hence, you need to make sure that the glimpse you are giving the admission
committee into your personality, character, background, and writing ability is the very best
possible.
It is necessary to keep the following key application essay tips in mind while writing:
Make it interesting: Admission Officers have to go through hundreds of college
application essays, and they can only spend few minutes to each essay. Make sure you
are not straining the admission officer’s patience by writing something which is “known to
all” or boring. However, this does not mean that they are looking for a new way to view
the world instead they are looking for a new way to view you, the applicant.
To the point: Being concise, is another important factor which should be kept in mind
while drafting your essay. Too much of words not only take up valuable space, but also
tend to confuse the important ideas that you are trying to convey. Sentences that are
short and precise are more convincing and strong because they are direct and to the
point.
No slangs please! : Inappropriate language is a strict no-no! Slang terms, clichés, an
excessive casual tone should be eliminated. Usage of these would only project a very
casual and an “I don’t really care” attitude, which would result in your application to
straight away be piled up on the “definitely not” stack of applications kept on the admission
officer’s desk.
Reflect yourself: Try putting in your views and perspectives on the instances you share.
Your essay should throw light on your character and your true personality. The reader is
most interested to have a glimpse of your own thought-process about a particular instance
that you have shared.
2. Be bold: The Admission Officer would appreciate a controversial write up. This however
does not mean that you have to pretend to have the final truth or have strict views on
sensitive issues. Diversity of mind is what the admission committee looks for as colleges
are places for discussion of various ideas. If you are to take a stand on anything, make
sure you are balanced and thoughtful. Give reasons and arguments for your views along
with accepting others’ perspectives as well.
No spelling mistakes: As little or ignorable as it looks, spelling errors simply scream
‘lack of attention to detail’. No matter how many times you have gone through your own
essay, you will not be able to spot a mistake as easily as a fresh pair of eyes. Your future
is worth the hassle if you just ask a friend or a teacher to triple check before finalizing it.
Answer the Question: Once you have finished drafting the essay, ask yourself or ask
your friends and family to read it and to keep these major questions in mind- Have I
answered the question and used specific and true experiences as supporting details?
Does each and every part successfully support my main argument? Is every sentence
crucial to the essay? (This must be the case) Does it reveal my personality?
Revise! Revise! Revise a little more! : Your only way to improve the essay is to edit,
edit, and edit some more. Revise your essay as much as you can, ask your friends and
family to read it, see if they are able to understand what you are wanting to write, dose it
serve the purpose of the admission committee, that is, does it answer the question.
These essential tips wouldn’t fall short if applied wisely. The key is to highlight your essay
from the crowd and emerge as a clear winner. Since you have control over the essay,
remember to do all that you can to show the admission committee what makes you the
most deserving applicant.
