The Methodist Girls High School has in the 134 years of its existence
sought to reduce the gender disparity in education, and promote the
access of young girls of Sierra Leone to secondary education.
The school's vision is to pursue high quality education and contribute
to high standards, by training well-motivated pupils who should
achieve their full potential in all aspects of life.
Even though the MGHS has Christian roots, the school welcomes
pupils from all religious denominations and backgrounds.
The Methodist Girls' High School has contributed to the lives of
thousands of women, who have during their time there gained
academic excellence and afterwards pursued distinction and now are
prominent in religious, legal, social, medical financial, educational,
secretarial, political and administrative fields in Africa, Europe and
America .
Many of these women have come together and formed alumnae
associations in different parts of the world. The most prominent
branches are the Old Girls' Associations in the United Kingdom and
those in the United States of America.
However, some alumnae do not have the opportunity of living in areas
where alumnae associations are present. MGHS Old Girls' Association
- Texas is dedicated to connecting all alumnae of the MGHS. We are
active on the web and on Facebook, please join us at

The Service
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty
The King of creation
O my soul, praise Him
For He is thy health and salvation
All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near
Praise Him in glad adoration
Praise to the Lord
Who o'er all things so wonderfully reigneth
Shelters thee under His wings
Yea, so gladly sustaineth
Hast thou not seen how thy desires e'er have been
Granted in what He ordaineth
Praise to the Lord
Who doth prosper thy work and defend thee
Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do
If with His love He befriend thee
Praise to the Lord, O let all that is in me adore Him
All that hath life and breath
Come now with praises before Him
Let the 'amen' sound from His people again
Gladly for aye we adore Him
Sing alleluia forth in duteous praise,
ye citizens of heaven, O sweetly raise
an endless alleluia.
Ye powers who stand before the eternal Light,
in hymning choirs re-echo to the height
an endless alleluia.
This is sweet rest for weary ones brought back,
this is glad food and drink which ne'er shall lack:
an endless alleluia.
While thee, by whom were all things made, we praise
forever, and tell out in sweetest lays
an endless alleluia.
Almighty Christ, to thee our voices sing
glory for evermore; to thee we bring
an endless alleluia.
Yield not to temptation, for yielding is sin;
each victory will help you some other to win;
fight manfully onward, dark passions subdue,
look ever to Jesus, he'll carry you through.
Shun evil companions, bad language disdain,
God's Name hold in reverence, nor take it in vain;
be thoughtful and earnest, kindhearted and true,
look ever to Jesus, he'll carry you through.
To him that o'ercometh, God giveth a crown;
Through faith we shall conquer, though often cast down;
He Who is our Savior our strength will renew;
Look ever to Jesus, He'll carry you through.
O for a thousand tongues to sing
my dear Redeemer's praise,
the glories of my God and King,
the triumphs of his grace!
My gracious Master and my God,
assist me to proclaim
and spread through all the earth abroad
the honors of thy Name.
Jesus! the Name that charms our fears
and bids our sorrows cease;
'tis music in the sinner's ears,
'tis life and health and peace.
He speaks, and listening to his voice,
new life the dead receive;
the mournful broken hearts rejoice,
the humble poor believe.
Hear him, ye deaf; his praise, ye dumb,
your loosened tongues employ;
ye blind, behold, your Savior come;
and leap, ye lame, for joy!
Glory to God and praise and love
be now and ever given
by saints below and saints above
the Church in earth and heaven.
We give thee but thine own,
whate'er the gift may be;
all that we have is thine alone,
a trust, O Lord, from thee.
May we thy bounties thus
as stewards true receive,
and gladly, as thou blessed us,
to thee our first fruits give.
O hearts are bruised and dead,
and homes are bare and cold,
and lambs for whom the Shepherd bled
are straying from the fold.
To comfort and to bless,
to find a balm for woe,
to tend the lone and fatherless
is angels' work below.
The captive to release
to God the lost to bring,
to teach the way of life and peace
it is a Christ-like thing.
And we believe thy Word,
though dim our faith may be;
whate'er for thine we do, O Lord,
we do it unto thee.
Mine, Mine Methodist Girls’ School
The High School for me;
Shine, shine, always deserving our loyalty.
Go, go forward forever,
Grow, grow faltering never
More glorious be.
Mine, Mine Methodist Girls’ School,
The High School for me.
Forth in thy Name, O Lord, I go,
my daily labor to pursue;
thee, only thee, resolved to know
in all I think or speak or do.
The task thy wisdom hath assigned,
O let me cheerfully fulfill;
in all my works thy presence find,
and prove thy good and perfect will.
Thee may I set at my right hand,
whose eyes mine in most substance see,
and labor on at thy command,
and offer all my works to thee.
Give me to bear thy easy yoke,
and every moment watch and pray,
and still to things eternal look,
and hasten to thy glorious day.
For thee delightfully employ
whate'er thy bounteous grace hath given;
and run my course with even joy,
and closely walk with thee to heaven.
