In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

Announcements and Opening Prayer January 11, 2015
1. Opening Prayer (In Unison)
Almighty God, as we step forward into this New Year, we give you praise. Deepen our
devotion. Strengthen our commitment. Open our minds. Warm our hearts. Empower us not to
carry anything forward into this time that is hurtful, harmful or detrimental. We turn our minds
in a positive direction. We discipline our words to speak in love and thankfulness, so that your
name will be glorified. In the amazing Name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Unison Scripture Reading: Ecclesiastes 3:1-6 (NIV)
1
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: 2
a time to be born
and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, 3
a time to kill and a time to heal, a time
to tear down and a time to build, 4
a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a
time to dance, 5
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time
to refrain, 6
a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away,

5. God, we love you and the genuine expression of love is giving. You showed your love for us
first by giving us your Son. We demonstrate our love for you by giving now a portion of
what you have given to us. We give freely. We give cheerfully. We will not rob you. Instead,
we will worship you by giving from our heart.
You are our #1 priority. We will not treat banks or bills better than we treat you because you
deserve all the glory, the honor and the praise. We refuse to live under a curse. Therefore, in
obedience to your Word, we bring our tithe and our offering to you today.
PUT your promise into action! Open the windows of heaven and provide what we need for
our desires and our destiny!
POUR into our lives the phenomenal and spectacular by releasing a blessing that is beyond
our wildest dreams!
PROTECT everything that we currently have and do not permit the enemy to abort
anything that you are trying to give us for our future.
The tithe is what we owe, the offering is seed we sow. We sow now with the expectation of
jobs and better jobs, of businesses and greater businesses, of raises and bonuses, of houses
and land, of freedom from debt and supernatural increase. Bless us indeed and enlarge our
territory as we live for your glory. Alleluia! In the mighty, matchless and miraculous name of
Jesus, we confess. Amen!

8. 34th Street Church mission can be summed up in this phrase: “empower you to
grow into all God created you to be.” Followers of Jesus are lifelong learners
and the spiritual journey is not meant to be alone. At 34th Street Church, we
believe that life is a team sport – best done together and as our church grows
larger, we must also grow smaller. Small groups are “learning communities”
that serve as a great way to grow in your relationship with God and make a
difference in the community. We encourage everyone to be involved in
group life because it’s there where you will meet new people while growing in
your faith.
