Thanksgiving is an American holiday celebrated in November where families get together to eat traditional foods like turkey and give thanks for what they have. The origins of the holiday come from Pilgrims who had a feast in 1621 with Native Americans to celebrate surviving their first year in America with the help of the Native Americans teaching them how to farm local foods. In 1863, President Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday to continue celebrating the Pilgrims. A typical Thanksgiving involves waking up, watching parades, cooking all day with family, eating a large meal together, playing games, watching TV specials, and getting ready for Christmas shopping the next day.
