Textual Analysis
   What I Have Learnt
Mise-en scene, Camera
      and Editing
• These are what give the video its characteristics and are crucial to
highlighting genre characteristics and making the video interesting and
    exciting to watch.

• Mise-en scene is a crucial part of a music video, or any media for that
matter. Without the right props, costume, acting or setting the video would
have no relevance or even make any sense.

• Editing and editing techniques are very important. A music video must have a
sense of pace and flow. If the music is quick and the editing slow the video
won’t suit it and feel like its lagging. If the music is slow and the shots are fast
and don’t flow together with the music the video will seem rushed and
    erratic.

• Camera is very important as poor camera work won’t show the important
stuff in the video very well. If a band or artist is not well know to the public,
showing their face and image is very important to help promote them. Also
if the camera work is poor it will make it harder to watch and discourage
    viewing.
Andrew Goodwin
• A music video should demonstrate the characteristics of the genre ie. live
    performance for rock bands.

• There is a link between the music and visuals (be it amplifying, illustrating or
    contradictive.)

• There is a link between the lyrics and visuals (be it amplifying, illustrating or
    contradictive.)

• The demands of the record label will include lots of close ups of the artist
and the artist may develop there own motifs.

• There is a frequent reference to the notion of looking (screens within
screens, telescopes etc) and a particularly voyeuristic treatment of the
    female body.

• There is often intertextual reference (tv shows, films, other music videos
    even poetry.)
Conclusion

• In conclusion I feel I have learnt a great deal
from studying other textual references and
that what I have learnt will help me with my
  own music video.
