Like our film we notice that in this part of the flashforward, there is an immediate impression given to the audience that a tragedy has happened resulting in death. However, where I feel we broke conventions was by showing the actual killing of the character, whereas many horror films like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre give the audience a brief overview of the ending without showing any action. However, we have challenged the way of structuring the film as immediately we have gained the attention of the audience to keep them focused and interested. Not just the distinct sound but the fact that someone is being carried into an ambulance on a stretcher connotes human casualties and deaths.
Director Marcus Nispel, wants the audience to realise that the tragedy that has happened within the film caused absolute mayhem for the Texas police, public and state as a whole. Nispel, also shows how big of an investigation this is by having many different people at the crime scene. People ranging from police to the F.B.I.
Very similar to our production and many other horror films this flashforward gives an overview of the location of the crime scene. In this case it’s the house The barn shown is the location of the crime scene I our film. This is one of the locations where the slasher kills his victims in My bloody Valentine.
I believe that Marc Nispel uses this long shot of the corridor which stretches out from a glimpse of daylight to pure darkness to connote to the audience that the lives of the characters are some what happy and normal to suddenly becoming horrific furthermore leading to the death of the characters. This gives a sense of what may or will happen.
Exactly like our production, the title sequence of the film appears after the flashforward which is a convention of horror films.
This screenshot shows the 5 young characters featuring in the film. This shows their everyday lives, with the characters driving in down the isolated country roads of Texas in a van. We use the same convention by showing our main character, Mark in his office working as normal, after he was shown being murdered by the slasher in the flashforward.
