Social Representations of Age In Our Film
These shots from the clip show Mark, the boss and John, the employee. Age can be represented through both characters as they are apart of the economically active because of the jobs they have. As a result this, this fits the stereotype of young middle-aged people being part of the economically active group. The fact that Mark is able to claim a higher position in the business over John despite John being there for a longer time, shows how Mark, who is younger than John has managed to use his knowledge to overcome other employees into getting the job. This challenges the stereotype of young people as the stereotypical reading interprets young people to be immature, lazy and irresponsible. However, this stereotype is challenged by Mark.
