What I learned from PFG Doncaster
Simon Duffy of the Centre for Welfare Reform argues that the current welfare state is not working for local communities and needs significant reforms:
1) Politicians and civil servants who design welfare systems do not understand local problems because they do not live in the communities affected.
2) Power and control over welfare services have become too centralized and removed from local communities.
3) The welfare state needs to be reformed to empower local people and communities by ending top-down control and competitive markets in favor of cooperative local solutions defined by citizens themselves.
