10 THINGS
COMPUTERS STILL
CAN’T DO FOR THE
WORLD
Adapted from points made by IBM Watson Lab’s Abhishek
Shivkumar http://b.qr.ae/1fE5PZc
1. They Can’t Predict
Human Decisions
Knowing when people
are thinking about
switching their
wireless provider is
harder than it looks
2. They Don’t Know
how you Really Feel
About Everything
Sentiments come from
people and
each human being has a
different feeling about
things.
3. They Don’t Know
When You’re Lying
Computers can check
facts, but they can’t tell
if you know what you’re
saying is true. Also,
when talking about
subjective topics, there
are no facts to check.
4. They Still Can’t
Recommend
Anything Important
Netflix can recommend
a movie, but can’t tell
which masters program
will help you feel more
fulfilled.
5. They Don’t Have
Good Manners
Ads are annoying, but if
computers could tell
when it wasn’t rude to
interrupt you, they
would be more
effective.
6. They Can’t Tell a Story
A human can weave a story
from large amounts of
information, synthesizing the
important points that you are
interested in.
Computers can only search
and aggregate different
stories.
7. They Can’t Keep Up With
The Data
If we record every piece of
information in the world, we
don’t have the computing power
to analyze it all.
8. They Don’t Know
Who You’ll Like
Computers can read
content, but they aren’t
very good at
understanding deeper
meanings like human
compatibility
9. They Can’t Understand
People
Given a series of videos,
computers are terrible at
describing and recognizing
human behavior.
MEDICINE AND MACHINE
LEARNING
Two patients, similar health
problems but two different
treatments , why?
Machine learning biggest
challenge is to help to provide a
better and more accurate
response to health problems.

Ten things computers can't do yet! But what if they could?
