a) Road : asphalt b) Cheese : milk
c) Whey : curd d) Hide : leather

hide.
Sequential / time relationship

out the pair that is closest in relationship to it.

Example:

DAWN : NOON : : _____________ : ______________

a) Slow : steady b) Medicine : fever
c) Storm : squall d) Summer : autumn

Answer: (d) Dawn is followed by noon. Summer is followed by autumn.
SERIES COMPLETION
In this type of non-verbal test, two sets of figures pose the problem. The sets are called Problem Figures and Answer Figures. Each
problem figure changes in design from the preceding one. The answer figure set contains 4 or 5 figures marked A, B, C, D, E. You
are required to choose the correct answer figure, which would best continue the series. These tests are based on pattern perception
tests, originally devised in England by LS Penrose.

Example

Study the problem figures marked 1,2 and 3 caftfully and try to establish the relationship between them. From the answer figures
marked A, B, C, D and E pick out the figure which most appropriately completes the series.

Answer E
Explanation

Note the direction of arrow which changes alternately. The dots are also changing alternately. Hefice, we are looking for a
figure in which the arrow points down and the dots and positimed as in figure 2.
Rotative Type
The various elements in the diagrams move in a specific manner. They may
rotate in clockwise or anti-clockwise direction.
Example

Answer C
Explanation:
The black dot is moving clockwise inside and small circle is moving clockwise
outside the rectangular figure.
VERBAL REASONING
Verbal reasoning is a test of logical reasoning, common sense and a fair
knowledge of the English language. These tests use words, letters and numbers
and also necessitate a reasonable measure of technical, scientific and
mathematical knowledge.

WORD ANALOGY
Word analogies test your skill in logical thinking by finding a relationship between words.

You are given a pair of words in capital letters – the question pair.

This pair is followed by four pairs marked (a) to (d), one of which is the answer.

Establish a relationship between the two words of the question pair.

Then select a pair from the second set that has a similar or the closest relationship to the first pair.
WISDOM : FOLLY : : ____________ : _____________
a) Valiant : brave b) Suave : debonair
c) Victory : defeat d) Star : constellation
At first, establish a relationship between the two words of the question pair.
Then, look at the four choices and search for the answer pair with the same relationship.
WISDOM and FOLLY are opposites. VICTORY and DEFEAT are opposites too. The answer is (c)
WISDOM : FOLLY : : VICTORY : DEFEAT
This is read as “wisdom is to folly as victory is to defeat” - the colon ( : ) is a symbol that means “is
to” and shows that the two words are related in some way. The double colon ( :: ) between the two
pairs means “as” showing that the second set of words bears the same relationship.
Note: These questions can be asked in different ways as shown with the examples below:
Type 1
RIDE : SADDLE : : _____________ : ______________
a) Swim : breath b) Novel : read
c) Dive : snorkel c) Shaft : engine
Answer: (c) A saddle is used for riding. A snorkel is used for diving.
