The My School Project aims to provide better educational opportunities to children in remote areas through a social contribution project at a hill tribe school in Thailand. The school currently has one building and classroom for 58 students of all grades, with an under-resourced library and lack of proper facilities. The project plans to renovate the school building, construct new classrooms, toilets and water containers, set up a library, and organize activities to improve the learning environment for students from the underprivileged village community.

NIMCJ Youth Club in India organized a Teachers' Day celebration for their HR Head and other teachers on September 5th, which is the birthday of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, a great teacher and former President of India. The HR Head, Mr. Unmesh Dixit, shared his views on how teachers from various backgrounds can influence students. The Director of NIMCJ, Dr. Shirish Kashikar, remembered his influential college professor. Both students and teachers expressed appreciation for the impact of teachers. The day included lectures by senior students and ended with a cake-cutting ceremony.

This is a workshop about communication and collaboration. We will experience how we can analyze the reasons for resistance to change (exercise 1) and practice how to improve our conversation style and be more in control and effective in the way we communicate (exercise 2).
This session will use Dave Gray’s Empathy Mapping, Argyris’ Ladder of Inference and The Four Rs from Agile Conversations (Squirrel and Fredrick).
Abstract:
Let’s talk about powerful conversations! We all know how to lead a constructive conversation, right? Then why is it so difficult to have those conversations with people at work, especially those in powerful positions that show resistance to change?
Learning to control and direct conversations takes understanding and practice.
We can combine our innate empathy with our analytical skills to gain a deeper understanding of complex situations at work. Join this session to learn how to prepare for difficult conversations and how to improve our agile conversations in order to be more influential without power. We will use Dave Gray’s Empathy Mapping, Argyris’ Ladder of Inference and The Four Rs from Agile Conversations (Squirrel and Fredrick).
In the session you will experience how preparing and reflecting on your conversation can help you be more influential at work. You will learn how to communicate more effectively with the people needed to achieve positive change. You will leave with a self-revised version of a difficult conversation and a practical model to use when you get back to work.

How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental Health
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

- 2. PRE ACTIVITY (5’) Show them a text. Then guess what text it is. (5’)
- 3. “You know the tailor bird of India? That’s a bird that does some sewing to make its nest. How does it do that? Well, first of all, it pokes holes through leaves. After that, it uses its beak to sew. It uses the beak as a needle, and the vines of the tree as the thread. Ehmm…then it sews the leaves together” What text is it??

MAIN ACTIVITY Ask students to mention the steps of how to make something (look at the picture) (10’) Show the correct answer, then analyze it together based on the language features of Procedure Text (10’) Divide students into group of five, give some topic to make into procedure text, then arrange it by using posters. (30’) Ask them to present their work in front of the class. (25’) Games. The teacher read the steps of something from 2 topic. Then students have to guess what process/something is talking about based on the steps given. e.g, it talks about how to make a cup of tea. (10’)

- 8. Games Text 1 “You need a glass of tea, two teaspoonfuls of sugar, ice cubes, and a slice of lemon. Make the tea a bit strong because when you add the lemon it will get thinner. After the tea is ready, squeeze the lemon according to your own taste, add some ice cubes” Text 2 “ First, you need some good bananas and some frying oil. You can slice the bananas into thin slices, then fry them in very hot oil until they turn brown. If you like, you can sprinkle some sugar on top. Otherwise, roll the bananas in flour before you fry them.”
