When educators make curriculum decisions it is beneficial to have a guiding set of pillars, as Tipu Whare does, to ensure the time and funding available is directed towards learning experiences that support the pillars of belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity. When schools and communities appoint teachers to work with disengaged young people, the educators must be passionate individuals who have a history of being crazy about their students, willing to be engaging and committed to a student-first perspective. This is not an easy path, but as demonstrated by Nga Tamaiti Rangatira (Children of Chiefs) it is a worthwhile endeavor.

You love Star Trek? Quirky characters, strange planets and cool spaceships. It was a favourite in our household when we grew up. Now as a father, I get to share the newer J.J. Abrams Start Trek movies (Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana etc.) with my kids and we love their creativity, problem solving and fast action.
Today, Nasa is boldly generating a love for the real Space Agency with dozens of challenges, talks, visits, encounters and outreaches. There is no other government agency like it.

So, why not teach creative processes? When a teacher determines to creatively teach they are role modelling the behaviours they want to see reflected in their students. Saves time. Saves energy.

The Deputy Principal uploaded academic and general policies to their Drive. All staff were then given access to securely share and access the files from anywhere.
