20. Howard Odum PermaCultureInstitute.pbwiki.com/HowardO Ecologist – “Energy Basis for Man and Nature” – a very important base of PermaCulture 1) Ecosystems as energy flows 2) Incorporating living & non-living elements 3) Incorporating human systems & economies as integral parts of the natural world
21. Propone una Tercera Ley de la Energía Odum proposes a Third Energy Law: “the systems that survive in competition amongst alternatives are those who develop more power (ratio of flow of energy) toward their interiors & use this for their survival needs.” (6 criteria) Fractals, attractors 3 rd Law Of Life 1 st Law 2 nd Law

26. Resources Technology Systems People Culture We have technologies for increasing Collective Intelligence (= the capacity to give fresh & effective responses to changing circumstance = the power of self-organisation) & we can design with them
27. Resources PRACTICAL tools for developing Collective Intelligence, decrease inefficiency, support evolution of the group

31. Technology Systems A systemic understanding of our blind-spots & ‘usual’ communication problems: good maps & models that don’t blame & give practical answers
32. A systemic understanding of our blind-spots & ‘usual’ communication problems: good maps & models that don’t blame & give practical answers Eg. Stages in the formation of communities & professional group (Scott Peck & others) Technology Systems real community emptyness chaos pseudo-community performing norming storming forming
33. Culture No need to “ re-invent the wheel”: “ Local Agenda 21 ” is still The conversation of the century participate!
34. Sustainable Development is that which satisfies the needs of the present without compromising the hability of future generations to satisfy its necessities. (United Nations, Bruntdland Commission ) “ No nation can achieve this by itself, but together we can, in a global association for sustainsble development” Environ- mental Social Economic “ the big Three” WE ME THEM Local Agenda 21 is the Theory, Permacultura is the Practice (& the Transition Movement a great collective expression of this)
35. “ The greatest challenges for humanity are not hunger, poverty, peace, public health, education, the economy, natural resources, nor a combination of these or other matters ... but our capacity to build new social organizations able to provide the solutions Our greatest challenge is Collective Intelligence” Jean Francoise Noubel Intelligent Groups
36. the PDC+++ as a shared social & cultural context An invitation to take an ACTIVE & informed part in a planetary evolutionary dialogue Designed to be multiplied & support Transition Groups or sustainability projects, eco-villages ALL types ! Very important now Culture Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has. Margaret Mead

Editor's Notes
Numbers (subsidies, taxes, standards). 8. Material stocks and flows. 7. Regulating negative feedback loops. 6. Driving positive feedback loops. 5. Information flows. 4. The rules of the system (incentives, punishment, constraints). 3. The power of self-organization. 2. The goals of the system. 1. The mindset or paradigm out of which the goals, rules, feedback structure arise.
