1. Citizenship through inquiry and action
Road safety curriculum resources unpacked for secondary schools
Teacher Workshop
Wednesday 4 March 2015
Secondary teachers are invited to a free Professional
Development workshop in Upper Hutt. This event will
demonstrate:
• How SOLO Taxonomy is used to plan for deep learning
outcomes that cover what students can describe, and
what students can do
• How you can use road safety as context relevant to
notions of citizenship education to hook students into
key concepts across learning areas such as English,
drama, mathematics and statistics, science, health and
PE, and media studies.
This workshop is led by well-known educators and
teachers.
It is a practical, forward-focussed event designed to help
with planning junior and senior units of learning.
Presenters will unpack curriculum resources that use
road safety as a context and show how to adapt these to
fit term planning and your students’ needs and interests.
NZ Transport Agency curriculum resources are:
• Aligned to NZC achievement objectives
• Designed using SOLO Taxonomy, and packed with
learning experiences
• Set up for teachers to easily modify and adapt
• Trialled in schools
• Quality-assured by NZQA (in the case of NCEA
assessment resources).
This free event is provided by the New Zealand Transport
Agency, Hutt City Council, and Upper Hutt City Council.
