To whom it may concern:
I would like to share what role Brenton Harvey played in my health and professional development over two
years in Shanghai, China, 2005-2007. Apart from treating and mentoring me, he helped a good percentage of
my friends with their various ailments as well, including my boyfriend.
I met Brenton through a mutual acquaintance, an acupuncturist who passed all of her patients to Brenton when
she left Shanghai. She knew I was interested in learning more about Chinese medicine, so she took me to be
the guinea pig for a session with Brenton. She was interested in improving her needling technique, and she
was interested in watching him needle. His clinic had one treatment table if I remember correctly, and it was full
of bulk Chinese herbs. He was clearly a very skilled diagnostician, acupuncturist and herbalist and I chose him
as my practitioner. After that day, I relied on him every time I had digestive upset or a cold for his powerful
herbal remedies and acupuncture treatments.
Over the next two years, Brenton made himself available to talk about any questions I had about Chinese
medicine. For my 28th
birthday, he gave me my first textbook on TCM, a book I carried home to the US and
used throughout my Masters program at Southwest Acupuncture School. My favorite memories of my times
with Brenton is walking around herbal apothecaries, and hearing him wax poetic about the herbs’ properties. I
consider him a mentor, I feel very lucky to have had him help navigate the world of Chinese medicine I was just
starting down my career path.
Brenton was the practitioner I recommended to my friends when they had serious ailments. He wasn’t cheap,
but he was the most effective. He’s an incredibly bold and skilled herbalist. I wish he was here in California to
apprentice with, he knows so much about herbs, the kind of things that are passed down, not taught in school.
He is an amazing wealth of knowledge, any city would be lucky to have him practicing there. Please feel free
to call or email if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Ingrid Peterson, L.Ac.
