We've been using HandlerSocket in our infrastructure for 2 years here at Badoo. Badoo has extensive experience running HS in production. More and more teams in our company use HandlerSocket for their projects.
We're currently using HandlerSocket as a Memcached replacement in some cases, as a search engine in some other cases and as a primary key-value storage for mobile & desktop applications. Our HS installation has more than 30 servers serving max. ~ 8000 RPS per server. I have written a custom HS client library for PHP including a couple of tricks and optimizations I'm going to show you.
I'm going to speak on:
Brief HS introduction.
What HS is and what it is not. The benefits it provides.
HS internals.
Common use cases, a detailed description of one or two use cases @ Badoo with figures.
Performance issues, speeding it up:
Sharding
HS with Percona Server
Using HS with persistent connections. Pros and cons, problems, solutions.
Tips & tricks: pipelining, lazy open_index, etc.
Useful links: HS client libraries, articles, Percona Server Handlersocket page.
This will not be an introductory talk but a summary of my practical experience including graphs, numbers and pitfalls.
Quiet hotel rooms -> Quiet Room® label -> more clients!
www.quiethotelroom.org/en
Excessive noise is one of the most frequent complaints in hotels. If your hotel has one or more really quiet rooms, this could give you a considerable advantage over the competition. Especially in an era when guest reviews on Tripadvisor and on social media are increasingly important for your reputation and commercial success.
By carrying the Quiet Room® label you can achieve a better ranking in the
search engines and attract more quiet-seeking clients
This document defines key concepts in experimental design including experiments, causation versus correlation, control groups, random assignment, internal and external validity, and the pros and cons of experimental methods. It explains that experiments manipulate independent variables to determine their effect on dependent variables and discusses strategies for establishing evidence of causality, such as time order of events and ruling out other possible causes. The document also covers how much control researchers have in different types of studies from observations to full experiments and notes important considerations for conducting experiments like specifying treatment variables, levels, and designs and ensuring validity.

This document discusses SSH (Secure Shell) and SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). SSH is a protocol for securely accessing remote computers over unencrypted networks. It uses encryption algorithms and public key authentication to protect data in transit. SSL is used to secure network communications and relies on certificate authorities to verify user identities. The document also describes how to manually install and configure SSL on an Apache web server, use SSH for encrypted file transfer and port forwarding, and highlights vulnerabilities in SSL renegotiation.

The document discusses wellbeing and provides tips to improve mental, physical, spiritual, and social wellbeing. It defines wellbeing as happiness, satisfaction, and quality relationships. Mental wellbeing involves coping skills, problem solving, and talking to others during stressful times. Physical wellbeing relies on daily exercise like dancing, walking, or yoga. Spiritual wellbeing involves religious activities, meditation, or volunteering. Social wellbeing requires nurturing relationships and getting involved in the community through activities and volunteering.
The document lists different 3D shapes including a pyramid, cube, triangular prism, cylinder, cuboid, sphere, and cone. It does not provide any additional context or details about the shapes.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive function. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms.
Longboards range from 36 to 60 inches and have larger, softer wheels than trick boards, providing a smoother ride. They use softer bushings or springs instead of bushings to allow for easier carving. Longboards can be used for travel or transport and come in different shapes like cruisers or hybrid boards. Their trucks are designed for sharper turns. Pintail shapes are useful for lifting the front of the board when riding off curbs. Longboarding originated in Hawaii in the late 1950s as surfers sought to replicate the feeling of surfing on land, and grew as a sport in California in the 1970s.
Skateboarding originated in the 1950s in California when surfers started riding wooden boards on the streets to mimic surfing. It grew in popularity in the 1960s and competitions emerged. Rodney Mullen was drawn to skateboarding because of the freedom of expression and lack of rules compared to other sports. When not being filmed, he experiments with new movements alone to improve his skills. The Melbourne Shuffle dance originated in the late 1980s from earlier dances in Australia and incorporated movements from breakdancing. Longboards are longer than typical skateboards and have larger, softer wheels, making them suitable for cruising and downhill riding due to easier carving. Their popularity increased in the 1990s as a board culture grew
The Running Man originated as a street dance in the late 1980s performed by artists like MC Hammer, LMFAO, and Vanilla Ice. It involves hopping or sliding steps at speed to mimic running. It later inspired dances like the Melbourne Shuffle and became a popular dance move in music videos and games. Drifting as a driving technique has been documented as early as the 1930s but modern drifting as a competitive sport originated in Japan in the 1970s as a racing technique used by drivers like Kunimitsu Takahashi and later popularized by Keiichi Tsuchiya in the 1980s. It has since evolved into a legitimate motorsport organized by competitions around the world.
Hieroglyphs were written using reed brushes to apply black ink made of soot and water or red ink from red earth and water onto papyrus or pottery when quick notes were needed. A cartouche is an oval shape that was drawn around a royal person's name when writing their name in hieroglyphs.
Chickens can be kept at schools because they help the environment. Chickens can live by the garden and fertilize the soil with their waste. They also eat food scraps and provide eggs. Chickens can be hypnotized by drawing a line in the dirt while holding them.

Solar power works by converting sunlight into electricity through either photovoltaic cells or concentrated solar power systems. Large solar power plants discussed in the document include the Olmedilla Photovoltaic Park in Spain which produces 60 megawatts, the Puertollano Photovoltaic Park in Spain which produces 50 megawatts, and the Waldpolenz Solar Park in Germany which uses thin film technology to produce 40 megawatts. While New Zealand does not have large utility-scale solar power plants, many homes use rooftop solar panels for electricity generation.

The Nile River was essential to life and travel in ancient Egypt. It flooded annually, depositing nutrient-rich soil along its banks and allowing for the cultivation of crops. The Nile also served as the primary method of transporting goods and people, as there were no roads, with smaller boats carrying grain and larger ships transporting livestock. Major structures like the Sphinx were built alongside the river so the Egyptians could live near it and use it for transportation.
Mummification is a 40-day process that the Egyptians used to preserve bodies for the afterlife. They removed internal organs and stored them in Canopic jars, with each organ corresponding to a different animal-headed jar. Mummies were buried with personal items and sometimes pets to accompany them in the afterlife, and placed inside pyramids along with everything needed for the next life.
The Egyptians relied heavily on the annual flooding of the Nile River for their survival. The floods provided rich soil for growing crops like grain, vegetables, and fruit. Bread made from grain was a staple food, though it was gritty due to sand mixed in during grinding. Meat was expensive so most people drank beer made from barley instead of wine. Houses were constructed from mud bricks that quickly deteriorated. Hunting was mainly for nobility while fishing and bird catching provided additional food sources for common people. Farming and trade centered around the bounty supplied by the life-giving Nile floods each year.
Spencer wrote a thank you letter to Michael for helping make the school camp successful and for walking with Spencer to Smugglers Bay. Spencer also thanked Michael for helping him pack his bag after their trip to Smugglers Bay. The letter was signed sincerely by Spencer.
