XXI World Congress Safety and Health at Work: OSH Implementation in SMEs in M...Dr Lilis Surienty
This study examined the role of management practices and legislation on OSH (occupational safety and health) implementation in SMEs (small and medium enterprises) in Malaysia. A questionnaire was administered to 152 SMEs across various industries in Northern Malaysia. The results of a hierarchical regression analysis showed that employee participation and safety training were important for achieving certain OSH implementations. Additionally, legislation enhanced the relationship between safety rewards and OSH implementations, and higher levels of legislation strengthened the impact of management commitment and safety training on OSH implementation. The study provides insights into improving OSH practices in Malaysian SMEs through strategic management practices and appropriate legislative support.
Presentation by Ms. Tuula Eloranta (Research Manager, University of Helsinki) on "Better Productivity and the Quality of Working Life through Collaborative Development of Work: Experiences from the Finnish Food Industry Businesses" during the study visit of the sub-committee on Innovative workplaces to Helsinki on 25 January 2011
The survey of 357 UK businesses found that 60% do not currently have an electronic time recording and attendance system, though 92% of those businesses would consider one in the future. Of the 40% that do use electronic systems, 99% reported the systems improved their payroll process by 75-100% by reducing the time spent on administration. Common issues for businesses included lateness (67%) and absence (57%), though 10% were unsure about lateness and 14% about absence. The average number of sick days per employee per year was 5-10 days for 27% of businesses. The survey demonstrates that electronic attendance systems provide significant benefits like reduced administration and ability to accurately track lateness and absence.
EU-OSHA Healthy Workplaces Campaign: Working together for risk preventionFERMA
FERMA is an official partner of the new EU-OSHA healthy workplaces campaign 2012–13 “Working together for risk prevention”
It encourages managers, workers and other stakeholders to join forces to improve safety and health.
The Campaign is co-ordinated by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA), and partners in the EU’s 27 Member States and beyond.
The 2012–13 Healthy Workplaces Campaign is decentralised and is designed to help national authorities, companies, organisations, managers, workers and their representatives and other stakeholders to work together to enhance health and safety in the workplace.
The campaign focuses on:
- risk prevention
- managing risks
- encouraging top managers to actively engage in risk reduction
- encouraging workers, their representatives and other stakeholders to work with managers to reduce risks
Central to the campaign are a range of materials that will further these goals. These include reports, practical guides, flyers, posters and DVDs. In addition, forces will be joined with the partners and national focal points to promote the European Week for Safety and Health at Work, as well as helping to organise training seminars, conferences and exhibitions.
This document discusses evaluating safety management systems. It aims to help participants gain a better understanding of safety programs as systems, learn a systematic approach to evaluating their company's safety program, and understand OSHA's Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) and Voluntary Protection Program (VPP-STAR). The document guides participants through forming evaluation teams, analyzing a company's current safety management system, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing changes using Deming's Plan-Do-Study-Act model.
The document outlines a postgraduate certificate in moving and handling (M&H) at Auckland University of Technology (AUT). Musculoskeletal disorders are a major cause of disability and work-related illness, especially in healthcare. The certificate aims to upskill healthcare workers in ergonomics, risk assessment, and evidence-based M&H practices. It consists of three papers taught over 15 months to align M&H in New Zealand with international standards. An evaluation will assess how the certificate improves M&H practices and reduces workplace injuries in healthcare organizations.

Total Quality Management in HealthcareGunjan Patel
Now days, Healthcare systems are of fundamental interests to all level of Hospitals in our societies. Eventually, increasing importance and reliance are placed on total quality management in healthcare systems. Due to this rising importance that is also reflected in the increasing percentage of national and international resources for both private and public sector to allocated in hospital management systems. Hospitals and other healthcare organization across the globe have been progressively implementing TQM to reduce costs, improve efficiency and provide high quality patient care.
Be Well Presentation 12-11-14 colored chartNancy Godfrey
The document summarizes research on USU employees' awareness of and participation in the USU Be Well program. It found that about half of employees were familiar with the program but participation rates were generally low. Common barriers to participation included inconvenient hours and class times. Employees suggested incentives like gift cards, merchandise, and medical premium subsidies to increase participation.
The document discusses balancing labor costs and quality patient care. It describes issues impacting the healthcare industry like reductions in payments and increasing costs. It outlines a workforce management solution using a labor productivity tool to track efficiency, identify variances, and make recommendations. The solution helped a 300-bed hospital reduce premium labor costs by $400,000 in the first year and improve labor productivity by $1.8 million with an ROI of 5 months. Within 2 years it led to reductions in premium labor costs, FTEs, and labor expenses.
This document discusses how integrating injury prevention into wellness programs can reduce healthcare costs and boost productivity. It provides two case studies of companies that successfully implemented injury prevention programs. The first company reduced musculoskeletal disorder costs from $2 million to $160k annually by establishing ergonomics processes and measuring risks. The second company coordinated benefits and saw a 40-45% drop in lost time claims through multidisciplinary teams and a phased approach. Overall, the document argues that risk-based, employee-engaged, and measurable injury prevention programs can significantly benefit organizations' costs and productivity when integrated with wellness.
THIS PRESENTATION CONTENT WILL GIVE YOU BRIEF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT HOW YOU CAN IMPROVE THE PROCESS OUTPUT WITH A PROPER PRE-DESIGNED STRUCTURE FOR THAT PARTICULAR.
ISO 9000, Lean manufacturing, and Six Sigma Works on the principle of total quality management or we can say that they overshadowed the TQM due to their efficient output in comparison to it.
The information technology and information technology-enabled services (IT/ITES) industries require skilled
human resources to unlock their potential. This will provide the foundation for take-off, which, for now, is falling
short. As envisioned in Digital Bangladesh, the IT/ITES industries can adopt the latest technologies across
different industries and should grow hand in hand with other drivers of growth.
Access to quality higher education must rise to develop future industry leaders in IT/ITES. While the gross
enrollment rate of tertiary education in Bangladesh has more than doubled from 7.7% in 2007 to 17.6% in 2017,
this is still below the lower-middle-income country average of 24%. Demand for higher education in Bangladesh will
surely increase as the economy expands; thus, the question now is what higher education fields should Bangladesh
prioritize for investment. The IT/ITES industries need skilled graduates who can work up to global standards.
This tracer study, which aims to improve the labor market outcomes of tertiary graduates of computer science and
engineering and/or institutes of information technology in Bangladesh, will help in the preparation of a new highereducation project in the country to be funded by ADB, the Improving Computer and Software Engineering Tertiary
Education Project. While that project selected only four universities, this tracer study covered an additional five
universities in Dhaka. I hope that the study findings will prove informative and improve computer science and
engineering and/or institutes of information technology beyond the nine universities included.

Premier's Introduction To Labor Management in Healthcaremoogiedm
This document provides an overview of labor management in healthcare, including key concepts, metrics, processes, and best practices. The summary includes:
Labor management aims to control labor costs, which account for 60% of hospital spending, through measuring productivity, benchmarking performance, and holding leaders accountable. It encompasses hiring, scheduling, and staff management across the organization.
Premier's labor management model focuses on measurement, processes/accountability, and program support. Key principles include executive leadership and transparency, using benchmark data to set targets above median performance, dedicating a labor coach, and allowing flexibility in staffing across departments. The goal is continuous improvement through established productivity standards and action plans.
The document discusses how technology is disrupting HR practices such as recruitment and healthcare spending. A survey found that 73% of companies' recruitment processes have changed in the last two years due to technology. While technology can automate some tasks, humans are still needed to make final decisions. The document recommends that HR professionals become proficient in data analysis to adapt to these changes. It also provides statistics on companies' recruitment budgets and tool investments.
The document discusses various quality management techniques including Total Quality Management (TQM), Six Sigma, Quality Circles, ISO standards, and 5S. It explains that TQM aims to embed quality awareness in all organizational processes. Six Sigma ensures a high process capability with very low defect rates. Quality Circles involve small groups of employees working to improve quality and productivity. ISO 9000 standards provide requirements for quality management systems. The 5S technique refers to organizing and standardizing the workplace. Overall, the document outlines different approaches for organizations to improve quality, reduce waste, and increase productivity.
The document discusses key factors for measuring the financial health of a dental practice, including production, collections, overhead, profitability, and new patients. It provides benchmarks for average daily production, collection rates, overhead percentages, and profitability. The document emphasizes the importance of reviewing practice numbers against benchmarks and developing an action plan to improve areas that are underperforming.
The document discusses key concepts in clinical laboratory management including leadership, quality management, safety, and regulations. Effective management requires both leaders to provide direction and managers to implement processes. Laboratories must balance various hazards through work practices, engineering controls, and personal protective equipment. Quality is ensured through approaches like total quality management, continuous quality improvement, and six sigma. Human resource management and strategic planning are also important aspects of running a successful clinical laboratory.
The pandemic has changed the world for good.

This is a New Zealand wide meetup event with meetup groups from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch attending and open to anyone with an interest in digital sustainability or agile. All welcome. Joke, this is how it started. Jutta is now also available in Germany, i.e. hosted by Berlin/Brandenburg
According to the World Economic Forum, digital technologies can help reduce global carbon emissions by up to 15%. However, digitalization also comes with some challenges. Thus, if we want to make a positive impact by increasing sustainability, we need to address challenges like the digital divide, energy consumption of IT, or the rise of electronic waste. In this talk, I want to explore how Agile can help to leverage Digital Sustainability.
