2. Indie Rock
•Indie Rock music was introduced to the public in the UK and USA in the
early 1980’s.
•It had originated from alternative rock and punk rock music, for example
bands such as The Smiths and R.E.M.
•There are more female artists within the genre of indie rock that male
artists.
•Indie rock was derived from the word ‘independent’ which is usually
solo artists which are on a low budget and not signed to a particular
famous record label.
•Indie rock bands and artists include:

•R&B stands for ‘Rhythm and Blues’.
•It had originated in the late 1940’s from the genres of Jazz, Blues and
Rag music.
•The genre usually is popular with African American music.
•During the early 1950’s, ‘rhythm and blues’ was applied to Blues and
rag music. Then over the years, it had developed to be known as
‘contemporary R&B music.
•Examples of R&B artists are:
