CONVENTIONS OF GENRE – HIP HOP
• Aggressive/Belligerent/Violent/Thug Life
• Simple colours like Black, Red, White, Grey
• Some use of aggressive serif fonts
• The artist is always large scaled with an angry or a “don’t mess with
me” facial expression
• Usually a large masthead with the artist in front of it or has been
slightly modified to fit the mood/theme whilst retaining the core logo
(Video games like Call of Duty and a some books/films slightly alter
the core logo to fit the theme on every release)
MODE OF ADDRESS
• The mode of address/language is mostly informal in hip hop
magazines. This makes it easier to read so the reader can just
skim through the magazine.
