TASK 4
The genre I aim going to work on is horror; this genre has been around for a
long period of time with the first horror dating back over 110 years. With the
genre being able to last so long it shows that the audience for this genre is still
out there and trailer for a horror film should have a large audience.
People enjoy watching horror films because of the thrill factors that come
with it, the films are able to put thoughts and play on the fears that are at the
back of the audiences minds. Making them start to fear things that might not
be real. A lot of horrors play on phobias and fears that are common of the
audience, this makes it a lot closer to home and gives the film a sense of
realism that makes it even scarier.
THE GENRE
I chose to do the horror genre as there are so many different ways that it can
be approached and changed from film to film. One of the biggest benefits is
that horror can be filmed anywhere if it is set correctly, with many different
varieties of plots.
It also allows me to play on the fear of the audience and pry on their phobias.
One good aspects of horror films is the ability to be able to produce top
quality films with very little props or money. Just by using editing, sound and
camera work it can have the same effects of spending large amounts of
money. This is proven by films such as paranormal activity which have small
budgets compared to some films but are able to do just as well or better
through intelligent editing.
WHY DID I CHOSE HORROR?
Trailers in horror are one of the most vital aspects of making sure the film
does well at the box office. It can attract the audience before the film has even
hit the cinema.
Trailers are often made to make the audience ask questions before the film has
even hit the screens, but with horror trailers they are made to scare the
audience. Give them a brief hint of what the film is about and how scary it is;
then for the audience to be able to see how this horror takes place or what
causes the scare in the film they have to watch the complete film.
The scare that the trailer can produce will dictate who watches the film in
cinema and what the audiences reaction might be.
WHY ARE TRAILERS IMPORTANT
IN HORROR
Trailers also play a major role to institutions that may distribute the film, by
showing them the trailer it may spark an interest and get that company to help
fund a feature film.
The trailer can be shown on the internet and at film festivals across the globe
to see what the audience could be like and if people would be interested in a
film with a plot like the trailer suggests. Which should allow the producers and
potential investors whether the film will be a success or whether it will do
dismal in the box office.
