A virtual presentation delivered to members of IFMA's Real Estate and Advisory Leadership community on December 15, 2016. Based in part on my book "Making Meetings Matter."
This one-hour webinar addressed the fact that in the future of work there are just two certainties: work will be more distributed, and it will be more collaborative. Yet these two factors are in direct conflict with each other.
These slides were the basis of my panel presentation at the IEDC conference in Indianapolis on June 4. The basic question being addressed was "how can we train people for jobs that don't yet exist?
This presentation was delivered to the IFMA Houston Chapter on June 6, 2013. It is based on a research study I led for RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) in 2012. However, it goes well beyond the original research to propose a new strategic vision and role for facilities professionals.
Belinda Nilsson-Rodrigues gave a presentation on IDEXX's journey toward more agile practices. She discussed how the company is transforming its portfolio, program, and project management to be more iterative and adaptive. Some challenges included change management and balancing team and executive needs. Successes included shorter cycle times, higher satisfaction, and improved alignment. Belinda advocated applying invitation and engagement to drive agile adoption and outlined upcoming trainings.
The document provides an overview of business analysis fundamentals and concepts. It introduces Giancarlo Duranti as an expert in business analysis and project management. It then discusses key business analysis topics including:
- Definitions of business analysis from PMI and other sources
- The value and benefits business analysis provides to organizations, projects, and stakeholders
- The role of the business analyst and how it interacts with other roles like project manager
- Business analysis processes and techniques for determining requirements
How to Think Strategically - WPYL - 3-4-16Greg Hopper
Here are some potential responses to the competitive advantage slide:
- Continually innovate and improve the product/service to stay ahead of competitors. Introduce new features/versions before others can copy.
- Focus on building a strong brand/reputation so customers choose your product/service based on trust and loyalty rather than just features.
- Diversify your competitive advantage - don't rely on just one thing like features. Build advantages in multiple areas like customer service, distribution channels, proprietary technology, etc.
- Partner or acquire emerging startups before their ideas can be copied. Buy innovation.
- Compete based on quality/reliability rather than just price if commoditization occurs. Own
