This presentation was delivered at the 2010 Creative Problem Solving Institute Conference in Buffalo, NY. The presentation is mostly images, so if you want the full presentation notes, find the PDF that goes with it. The content in this presentation is similar to the content presented at the 2010 LOEX of the West Conference in Calgary, AB.
The document discusses the objectives of a course on environmental history of natural disasters. The course aims to problematize the idea of a natural disaster by reframing the relationship between humans and nature. It also seeks to analyze popular culture's presentation of disasters and examine how factors like race, class and gender influence vulnerability. The document provides context on these objectives and the multidimensional nature of studying disasters. It summarizes the arguments of Smith and Hoffman that disasters are processual phenomena linked more to societal factors than nature alone. Key concepts discussed include hazards, vulnerability and the need to study disasters to understand their true causes and prevent future harm.

This document provides an overview and introduction to Displate, a company that designs, manufactures, and sells metal posters featuring artwork from independent artists. In 3 sentences:
Displate is a growing global commerce platform that sells metal posters featuring over 97,000 designs from more than 4,100 artists, and prides itself on its unique company culture that emphasizes values like innovation, fun, feedback, and corporate responsibility through environmental initiatives like planting trees. The document invites the reader to learn more about Displate's mission and culture and encourages them to join the rapidly growing company.
The document discusses the need for organizations to shift from competing on knowledge to competing on creativity in the digital age. It argues that digital conferences often fail to bring meaningful change because they do not fundamentally alter company culture, structures, behaviors or mindsets. The document advocates for taking an entrepreneurial approach to change by emptying calendars, questioning processes, and spending money like a startup in order to build a "digital superhub" through creative teams. It emphasizes the importance of truly embracing digital transformation and avoiding half-hearted approaches.

Revenue and financing models for ecological farmersakkernaarbos
This document discusses various revenue and financing models for ecological farms. It begins by introducing the speaker and stating that the afternoon will focus on inspirational models for revenue and financing. It then contrasts traditional annual crop farming with ecological polyculture farming, noting that the latter has smaller diverse harvests that are more difficult to sell and calculate income from. The rest of the document proposes several ideas for marketing ecological farm produce, including selling to local shops and farms, providing care services using the health benefits of nature, partnering with nature organizations, offering workspaces, creating experiences for customers, selling online, forming collectives, using local currencies, and cooperating and crowdfunding. It concludes by having participants brainstorm a plan to increase revenue
This document summarizes a technology-powered management consultancy that believes great people are important for businesses. They develop tools and technology to help organizations find and develop talented people. They have experienced rapid growth, opening a US office and doubling revenue and size last year. They work with both large corporations and organizations helping veterans, students, and patients. They are seeking new talent to join their product team and help address important issues around employee engagement and development using psychology.
An Analysis Of Section 3 3 Of The Competition Act 20Stephanie Barker
This document discusses the pros and cons of industrialization presented in Kurt Vonnegut's novel Player Piano. It notes that while industrialization promises to upgrade people's standard of living, people are actually exploited by companies and don't realize which technologies are essential. Vonnegut portrays how industrialization can place people in a pathetic condition by manipulating their desire to compete and own the latest technologies. The Ghost Shirt Society provides shelter for revolutionary thoughts in the novel, as it's a refuge from being slaughtered for leaving.

1) The document summarizes a keynote speech given by Nat Torkington at LIANZA 2013 about the future of libraries and the changing role of librarians.
2) Torkington acknowledges that librarians face fears about technology replacing them but urges librarians to focus on their core purpose of helping people access and understand information.
3) He recommends that librarians take an approach of continual learning and adaptation, using techniques like teaching as inquiry to invent their future through cheap and quick experimentation with users.

He uses real-life stories, observations and lessons learned to highlight the dangers and pitfalls of attempting to imitate others and give food for thought on building an original culture. THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.
