This assignment was something I made for Full Sail University. We had to take a record label abroad. This was made in Microsoft Word and utilized skills in writing, and research from multiple sources.

For this assignment, I plan to take my record label, Infamous Melodies, abroad to Denmark. My
record label hopes to attract a new target market in Europe and wants to see significant growth in
the market.
According to Götting, the most popular music in Denmark is Pop with 60% and Rock with 45%
(2022). That said, the Infamous Melodies team believes that taking the label abroad would help
increase our market share and find new growth. Denmark is in the Northern part of Europe, just
south of Norway and Sweden and North of Germany (globalEdge, n.d). So, it is relatively a
colder climate, similar to the Northern US. The population of Denmark is approximately 6
million as of 2022 (CIA Fact Book, n.d.). Compared to the US, it is a relatively small country but
one of the easiest to start a business.
The history of Denmark is lovely. It has one of the oldest flags in the world and two ancient
amusement parks (Fun facts about Denmark, n.d.). Denmark is also known for its part in the Age
of the Vikings, with some conquering parts of Yorkshire in Northern England and Normandy in
France in the late 700s AD (History of Denmark, n.d.). On a more recent note, Denmark became
part of NATO in 1949, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) in 1959, and the European
Union, also known as the EU, in the 1970s (Denmark: History, n.d.).
The record label market in Denmark is filled with healthy competition. One of the biggest record
labels in Denmark is called Copenhagen Records, now owned by Universal Music (Smirke,
2013). A few famous artists known in America have come from this label, like Lukas Graham
and Aqua (Artister, 2021). The Infamous Melodies team believes this is enough competition to
foster an excellent environment to work and grow in.

The political climate in Denmark is exciting as it is one of the few remaining parliamentary
constitutional monarchies. According to globalEdge, the country is known as the Kingdom of
Denmark, with Queen Margrethe II as the chief of state/queen and Prime Minister Mette
Frederiksen as the Head of Government. The monarchy is hereditary, and the monarch appoints
the prime minister until dismissal by the executive branch (Denmark: Government, n.d.). The
monarch also appoints judges in the judicial branch upon recommendation of the minister of
justice, whereas the legislative branch is elected for four years.
The investment climate is currently very healthy. After the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, it
has been bouncing back. "Denmark is one of the world's leading foreign investment destinations
and ranks highly in indices measuring political, economic, and regulatory stability… In addition,
Denmark is strategically situated to link continental Europe with the Nordic and Baltic countries"
(Denmark – Investment Climate Statement, n.d.). Denmark is also "among the world leaders in
high-tech industries such as information technology, life sciences, clean energy technologies, and
shipping." There is also a large amount of female-led entrepreneurship in Denmark, which is still
growing (Denmark – Investment Climate Statement, n.d.).
Regarding economic data, Denmark has an increasing Gross Domestic Product (GDP). As of
2020, Denmark's GDP was at about $353 billion, with a GDP per capita of about $60,552, which
ranks 51 out of 197 (Denmark: Economy, n.d.). The main exports for Denmark are Germany
14%, the United States 11%, Sweden 10%, the United Kingdom 7%, Norway 6%, Netherlands
5%, and China 5%. The main imports are Germany at 21%, Sweden at 11%, the Netherlands at
8%, and China at 7% (Denmark Economics, n.d.). Denmark primarily exports medicines,
generators, pork, refined petroleum, and medical cultures/vaccines, whereas the main imports are

cars, refined petroleum, packaged medicines, crude petroleum, and broadcasting equipment
(Denmark Economics, n.d.).
The culture is different from the United States' corporate structure in terms of business etiquette.
There is a strong sense of equality and a low power distance between different layers, the boss's
door is usually open and is available for a chat with employees of any job level. Job titles are
rarely used and thought rather pompous. There is a big emphasis on trust and openness, and
employees must be willing to admit their mistakes and try to fix the problem as fast as possible
(Working in Denmark: Danish Business Culture Archives, n.d.).
Denmark has the lowest corruption rating worldwide, which is great for moving the record label
across the ocean. In addition, it is number three in ease of doing business, four in global
entrepreneurship, and seven in the Big Mac Index (Denmark: Risk Assessment, n.d.). With this
being said, I believe Denmark is the best place to look to move the record label overseas, and I
hope to see significant growth over the next few years.
