Before I start my presentation, I will introduce a little about myself. I am Kent Cheong. I am now doing my medical study in Kursk State Medical University in Russia. I am Independent associate of USANA Health Science since year 2009. Here is still winter now, the weather is cold, approximately -15’C.

Why Health care is so important. Lets analyze today’s Health Reality.
In the 1900’s most people die due to bacterial and viral infections, that’s why science developed antibiotics and vaccines to combat such. Now our antibiotics are very advanced! But just like cell phones and computers, disease conditions also upgrades and these are the disease we call as degenerative. The result of our lifestyle and daily habits that further has affected our health. Look at the upper Right column. Now days people die from Chronic degenerative diseases. Indeed, fewer of people die of old age. Degenerative health conditions take away lives before their expected end of life expectancy. The numbers are frightening. If we go by the statistics, over half of the people in this world will die of either cancer, heart disease or stroke.
Unlike 100 years ago when infectious diseases dominate, degenerative diseases are now the major problem of world health. (Singapore is no exception). Despite billions of dollars in global research, there remain no effective cure for most of the top killers. What we can do is only provide Symptomatic and supportive treatment.
But most degenerative diseases are preventable. We must first understand that these diseases are NOT an inevitable result of old age. “Old” does not equal “Sick” – not necessarily. Almost all degenerative diseases result from cumulated damage to our cells. So, if we protect our cells from damage, we have the best chance to live a long healthy life. Our cells are the basic unit of life that when multiplied becomes the tissues, organs, organ system and the body itself. Cells are normally surrounded by electrons, this maintains the stability of the cells to perform its daily activities. Free radicals which is caused by toxins, stress, and others has been discovered to remove this electrons that has been on of the reason why cells loose their stability and then eventually die before they suppose to die based on its life span. Abnormal cell death is equal to abnormal cell function and incomplete cellular reproduction that leads to many degenerative health conditions. Antioxidants was developed by science thru phytonutrients. This has been established to replace the lost electrons and make the cell do its function completely. Antioxidants maintain the balance of free radicals in the body. We call this neutralization. The more cells become functional, the more it can perform its unified actions and prevent the body from damage.
Our cells are damaged by Free Radicals. A free radical is a molecule with unpaired electrons in its outer shell. It is highly reactive, and it steals the electron from the healthy cells, surprisingly, it can even damage our healthy cells DNA, and so there are 2 ways for our cells to go: 1)Cells are damaged, they will die. 2)Cells DNAs are damaged, it then mutates, grows, and become cancer cells. Free radicals come not only from pollution and toxins from the outside, but are also generated by our cells during the process of burning food for energy. So there is no practical way of avoiding them. A most important factor is Stress. What we need are Antioxidants to protect our cells. Antioxidants donate electrons to free radicals, but do not become free radicals as a result. Hence they stop the chain reaction of destruction. We should get a significant amount of antioxidants from our food. The more the antioxidants in our body, the less damage free radicals cause.
