Custom built software and blts are not the sameReda Hmeid MBCS
Equal Experts is a network of experienced software consultants specializing in agile delivery of custom-built software solutions for businesses. The document discusses principles for determining when to build versus buy software components, noting that organizations should build what differentiates them and buy what does not. Custom software allows realizing value sooner by only building what is truly valuable and limiting development only by imagination.

The fake problem with hiring juniors by Berta DevantCodemotion
#Codemotion Rome 2018 - There is a common misconception that junior developers are a burden and won’t be delivering value for the first months or even years. Yet, observing my own contributions, I realised how my insights were useful for my team from day one. Working with agile methodologies, using pair programming and code review, you can contribute to your team, deliver value and learn on the job. In this talk I will try to explain why hiring Juniors makes business sense for your company and/or team and how to properly get the most out of every team member no matter their level of experience.

Designing Products and Services Customers Want To Buy
Why is the batting average for product development approximately 20%? Why should you re-look at the traditional “voice of the customer” approach? If the traditional approach worked, then why do you have such a low batting average? If we had an accurate method of defining product requirements, then why do we call the product definition phase, the “fuzzy front end?” The primary reason is that companies are looking for innovation in the wrong places.
This session will discuss what it takes to look for innovation in the right places and in the right way by taking a concern oriented rather than a solutions oriented approach. Customers know what job they want to get done, its importance, and their level of satisfaction with the current approaches. Approached this way developers can do what they do best. Provide innovative solutions.
Matt Scott is recommended for employment by his former manager Ryan Jakubov. Matt worked as Quality Assurance for onboard computers and equipment validation from 2012-2014, ensuring hardware and software were ready for beta testing and commercial release. Matt has excellent communication skills, is organized, reliable, computer literate, independent, and ensures jobs are completed. He is flexible and willing to work on any project.

Mixing Product & Tech by Jean Lebrument, CTO & CPO at BrigadTheFamily
Brigad connects hospitality businesses with qualified & flexible staff.
Jean is Brigad’s co-founder, CTO & CPO, managing four teams: Product, Engineering, Quality and Data. Yes, all at the same time :)
He will share both his experience from 3 years of handling these functions, what he learned in the process & his beliefs about the mix: Should all startups have a CPO & a CTO?
Energy Shift
Past
Rewind to two months back. We didn’t “have time” to “think about” how our TA teams were structured or the TA tech we were using. Emphatically speaking, understanding our process or how it may be affected by one swift downturn was not something we were concerned with.
Present
Until now.
We are listening. We’ve heard the RecruitingDaily audience, loud and clear over the last few weeks.
Many companies that we’ve heard from (and there’s been plenty) are simply not equipped to handle a swift change to a once comfortable environment in Talent Acquisition.
The problem? TA Tech and Process.
Does our tech align with our strengths?
Will it exploit our weaknesses?
Is our process meaningful and does it create a wonderful candidate experience?
We are going to help you navigate these questions.
Specifically:
Understanding yourself and where you need to enhance your strengths and/or shore up your weaknesses
Interpret your team’s alignment, how they collaborate, how the workflow works or doesn’t with regards to your team
Outlining your processes, how they’re linked or not, how to effectively audit said processes, how to continually make workflow and quality the responsibility of everyone and of course…
Discovering how talent acquisition technology, from sourcing to programmatic ad buying to recruitment marketing to creating a wonderful candidate experience, works or doesn’t work.
Future
We’ll give actionable advice on all four fronts. You’ll leave the webinar inspired to invest in yourself, your TA team, your TA processes, and your TA technology.
Most companies fail at recruiting good engineers. By inculcating a culture of understanding and assessing a candidate to verify their skills, you can avoid these pitfalls of hiring.
The document discusses principles for agile product management in startups. It emphasizes the importance of iterating quickly before running out of resources, keeping things simple by maximizing unnecessary work, and getting outside feedback from customers rather than expecting customers to know their wants. It also notes that successful software products are built "right enough" and that everyone's shared job in a startup is to ship products rather than focusing on individual roles like coding or testing.
John Coggeshall has 18 years of experience in web development and PHP. He discusses several projects that failed due to neglecting technical debt, overcomplicating projects, and ignoring expert advice. Some key lessons are to have expert skills as partners rather than employees, manage expectations, be flexible, have a development process, and keep things simple.
This document discusses why most organizations are not learning enough and changing effectively. It argues that true change requires moving away from top-down, uniform change programs towards independent, business-aligned teams with decision autonomy, visibility, knowledge sharing, and an emphasis on learning through trying new things. The key is shifting from a focus on control to one of openness, meritocracy, flexibility and collaboration both within and across teams.
Mike Giannamore is a student at Johnson & Wales University studying graphic and web design. He has taken several relevant courses including graphic design, advanced graphic design, and web design. His goal is to obtain an internship close to his home in Connecticut upon graduation to gain experience and potentially a full-time position. He has strong skills in design programs like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator as well as HTML and Dreamweaver. Mike works well both independently and collaboratively on projects.
Glenn Bradford is recommended for a position based on his excellent internship performance. He assembled and distributed computers, assisted with help desk tasks, and submitted a proposal with new technology ideas. Glenn was always punctual, a quick learner, and proved his strong work ethic. His rapport and listening skills will make him successful.
When it comes to building a product, we all know the rule: build, test, iterate as quickly as possible to validate your customer's needs. It's all well and good, but how do you do this when you deal with risk-averse enterprise customers? How do you keep iterating rapidly whilst not disrupting their use of the product? Mads will discuss lessons learned on the journey from designing PowerPoints as MVPs to real-time interactive dashboards.

Nubank needs good customer experience to scale its fintech business across complex regulatory domains. Customers have different needs regarding products, technology skills, and issues like fraud. The document discusses using a combination of rule-based and machine learning models for an intelligent customer support assistant to help with various problems across teams in a minimal style. It suggests starting simply by classifying customer requests and using templates, then stacking models and training on more data to improve performance over time.
Pushpinder Kaur has over 10 years of experience in IT projects and management in India and Australia. She possesses strong technical skills as well as people skills including leadership, communication, and the ability to develop relationships. Her experience includes roles as a project developer, team leader, and IT support personnel. She has a Master's in Management Information Systems from Edith Cowan University.
Programming As A Tool & Not A Professioninvisiwill
The document argues that programming should be viewed as a set of tools for problem solving rather than a career path. It notes that abstraction and improved education have led to more people being able to program with less effort. This increased supply of programmers has caused wages to drop. The document encourages focusing programming skills on a niche area one is passionate about in order to stand out, and to diversify investments of one's labor across multiple niches and business partners.

Building digital product masters to prevail in the age of accelerations parts...Jeffrey Stewart
This document discusses the importance of building Digital Product Masters (DPMs) to help organizations adapt and succeed in today's rapidly changing environment. It argues that DPMs can help mitigate risks, reduce costs, and improve revenue. The document is presented in three parts:
Part 1 discusses how the world is accelerating and the new risks organizations face. It suggests that DPMs can help lower costs, mitigate risks, and create stronger customer lock-ins.
Part 2 explains what a DPM is and how it models activities, tools, flows, teams, capabilities, processes, technology, and people. It shows how a DPM can help align these different elements.
Part 3 will provide a case study

Businesses are investing in IT to help leverage existing resources more thoroughly and find hidden nuggets to put to use. For this reason, there are now more jobs in the IT field than we've seen in quite a few years. It’s that inevitable fork in the road for an IT professional. As a result, a lot of folks are starting to take another look at the IT field as a career choice. What are employers looking for? Certifications? Experience? Degrees? Some combination of the three? Which is more valuable? The answer to these questions depends upon many factors. After all, not all IT certifications or college degrees or job experiences are the same.
These are questions that were addressed by our guest speaker, Gerald Smith at the October 2013 program meeting hosted by BDPA Cincinnati chapter. Gerald is a senior manager with Sogeti and an IT professional with a number of important certifications in program management and agile transformation. He has been a hiring manager looking over resumes and job seekers during his management career at Kroger and Luxottica Retail. Gerald is also a long-time BDPA supporter … once serving on the board as BDPA Cincinnati chapter VP-Strategy & Planning.

Measures in SQL (SIGMOD 2024, Santiago, Chile)Julian Hyde
SQL has attained widespread adoption, but Business Intelligence tools still use their own higher level languages based upon a multidimensional paradigm. Composable calculations are what is missing from SQL, and we propose a new kind of column, called a measure, that attaches a calculation to a table. Like regular tables, tables with measures are composable and closed when used in queries.
SQL-with-measures has the power, conciseness and reusability of multidimensional languages but retains SQL semantics. Measure invocations can be expanded in place to simple, clear SQL.
To define the evaluation semantics for measures, we introduce context-sensitive expressions (a way to evaluate multidimensional expressions that is consistent with existing SQL semantics), a concept called evaluation context, and several operations for setting and modifying the evaluation context.
