The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive function. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms.
The document provides an overview of distributed systems concepts including distributed storage, transactions, computation, and coordination. It discusses various approaches to distributed storage including replication, sharding, consistent hashing, and distributed file systems. It also covers distributed transactions and the challenges of maintaining ACID properties in a distributed environment. The document introduces concepts of distributed computation frameworks like MapReduce and Spark and how they move computation towards data rather than moving large amounts of data. It discusses distributed coordination challenges and approaches like NTP for time synchronization, gossip protocols, and Paxos for reliable distributed logging.

This document summarizes a Voicethread project between St James Primary School in Australia and a school in the United States. Voicethread allows users to create multimedia presentations and leave comments via voice, text, audio or video. St James worked with several other Australian schools and one in New Jersey, USA to set up student avatars and comment features on Voicethread. The project aimed to facilitate collaboration between international schools by having students exchange photos and comments about each other's school mascots.
The document provides an overview of using the DotNetNuke (DNN) content management system to develop an intranet for DFG. It discusses high-level design considerations including templates, navigation, accessibility, and ergonomics. It then covers DNN functionality like logging in, adding pages and modules, and formatting content. The goal is to enforce standards, simplify content management, and control access to information on the new intranet site.

Higher Education on the Brink: Digitise or DisappearJeremy Williams
This document discusses the need for higher education to digitize and adapt in order to remain relevant. It notes that the age of entitlement for learners and funding is over, and that learners are often disengaged. It promotes a vision for the future of education that is learner-centric, focuses on authentic and participatory learning experiences, and is flexible and multi-modal in format to cater to different learning styles and lifestyles. Assessment would be grounded in demonstrating real-world outcomes and lasting learning beyond tests. Examples of curating information on Pinterest boards and Scoop.it topics are provided.
The LPL Financial Current Conditions Index is a weekly measure of the conditions that underpin our outlook for the markets and economy. The CCI provides real-time context and insight into the trends that shape our recommended actions to manage portfolios. This index has proven to be a useful tool for investment decision making.
This weekly index is not intended to be a leading index or predictive of where conditions are headed, but a coincident measure of where they are right now. We want to track the conditions in real-time to aid in investment decision making. There are thousands of indicators-some lead the economy, some lag, while others merely offer a lot of statistical noise. We chose to create our own index tailored to the current environment to provide the clearest and most useful way to track conditions. The components of the CCI are periodically changed to retune the index to those factors most critical to the markets and economy so it may continue to be a valuable investment decision-making tool.
1) Students in the 7th grade planted different seeds in pots and put them on a windowsill to get light and watered them regularly.
2) The plants grew slowly at first as the students waited patiently. They observed different characteristics of the plants from Spain, France, Italy, and the Czech Republic.
3) After the first round of planting did not work out, they replanted and labeled the surviving plants, including a "Spanish plant nr. 0.5". The French and Czech plants were growing well.

The document discusses optimizing test execution by running tests in parallel across multiple CPUs. It mentions that test/unit currently runs tests sequentially in a single thread. Running tests in parallel using threads or processes could help utilize available CPUs better and reduce test execution time. Some challenges with parallelization are ensuring proper communication between test processes and avoiding race conditions when accessing shared resources.
