Software intelligence company Dynatrace announced the addition of a Cloud Automation Module to its Software
Intelligence Platform. This new Module will leverage the automation and intelligence at the core of the Dynatrace®
Platform to orchestrate the application development lifecycle process, including automating code tests and quality checks
against an organization’s service level objectives (SLOs). This orchestration is powered by a fully-supported version of
Keptn, an open-source, CNCF project. This addition to the Dynatrace® Platform will transform how development,
DevOps, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams develop and manage cloud-native applications, enabling them to
deliver innovation faster and with less risk. The Dynatrace® Cloud Automation Module will be available within the next

resources up and down, as needed. While the scope of a digital business transformation will vary by organization, the one thing they tend to have in common

MongoDB launches Realm Sync to keep data synchronized between
mobile and the cloud

MongoDB, the company behind the popular NoSQL database, announced the general availability of a new service that keeps data synchronized between devices, users,
and the backend in real time. Realm Sync, which was available in beta before, is the result of an acquisition dating back to 2019, when MongoDB snapped up San
Francisco-based Realm in a $39 million deal. Realm is an open source database and synchronization platform used by mobile developers to ensure data is always synced
between devices and the cloud, particularly where offline functionality is required. Realm Sync is an out-of-the-box solution that resolves potential data conflicts
automatically, saving companies from developing their own data sync functionality from scratch. After acquiring the startup nearly two years ago, MongoDB merged its
serverless Stitch platform with Realm, but as of now all of Realm’s application development services, its mobile database, and its synchronization services are fully
integrated with MongoDB Atlas, which is MongoDB’s database-as-a-service product available on public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. While
most mobile apps require an internet connection at least some of the time, apps designed as “offline-first” enable some of the content to be shifted from a remote server
to the user’s device. This means a faster experience, as the app doesn’t have to constantly retrieve data from the cloud, and is particularly important when the user’s
network connection is slow. This is where Realm Sync shines, as the mobile database enables the end user to read and write data to their devices, reducing latency and
enabling offline functionality. With bidirectional data sync, data that is captured on the device is automatically sent to MongoDB Atlas when there is a connection to be
processed and analyzed. In the real world, this means consumer companies such as Netflix can offer a consistent view of each user’s data across all their devices. In
enterprise scenarios where multiple users and devices may need to sync data to the cloud, Realm Sync ensures it happens automatically and consistently. Realm is used
by companies from across the industrial spectrum, including Netflix, Google, Amazon, Intel, Walmart, Starbucks, Cisco, the BBC, and many others.

Merck, a leading science and technology company, has launched an enhanced Design for Sustainability (DfS) framework, a unique approach to holistically integrate sustainability into Life Science
products, systems and services. With the introduction of DfS, Merck leads the life science industry in ensuring that sustainability is at the forefront of each stage of the product life cycle. This important
strategic initiative supports the company’s commitment to integrate sustainability into all value chains by 2030, as outlined in its sustainability strategy. The DfS framework comprises three parts —
Development, Consulting and Re-engineering — in which Merck identifies the sources of environmental impacts, defines relevant targets and measures product sustainability characteristics.
• Development: In the Development process, Merck coordinates efforts with its customers and internal researchers to provide more sustainable solutions in their applications. The DfS standards
guide the research and product development processes by introducing greener products from the outset. One example is Merck’s Stericup®E and Steritop®E sterile filters, which significantly reduce
the amount of plastic and packaging that enters the laboratory and waste stream.
• Launched as an internal program in 2014, the DfS-Development framework was revamped in 2020 to include new categories and sustainability measures that allowed Merck to better assess
products and share sustainability features with customers. The framework consists of 23 sustainability aspects grouped into seven categories covering the major areas of environmental and human
impacts: Materials; Suppliers & Manufacturing; Energy & Emissions; Water; Packaging; Usability & Innovation; and Circular Economy.
• Consulting: In the Consulting stage, Merck collaborates with customers in industries ranging from agriculture to household products manufacturing on ways to apply green chemistry designs to
their research and operational approaches. For example, Merck is working with a technology partner in the leather tanning industry to introduce a safer alternative to one ingredient. This alternative
product will improve both sustainability and safety, while also yielding high quality leather.
The DfS program is a cornerstone of Merck’s commitment to delivering sustainable business practices throughout the lifecycle of its Life Science products. This unparalleled approach allows the

company based in the U.K. that has a long history of developing compilers and tools for different hardware architectures. The company has been the lead
implementor of SYCL compilers and a main contributor to the existing open source support for NVIDIA V100 GPUs through the DPC++ project. NVIDIAA100
GPUs are available in the ThetaGPU extension of ALCF’s Theta and will power NERSC’s next-generation supercomputer, Perlmutter. NERSC supercomputers
