This document provides an overview of the systematic review process. It begins with developing the research question using PICO(S) or SPICE frameworks. This is then translated into search terms and concepts. The document outlines searching databases and other sources, as well as screening and critically appraising the literature. It discusses data synthesis and publication bias. Tips are provided for searching, such as using wildcards, adjacency searches, and combining concepts. Challenges like books, grey literature, and other languages are noted. Reference manager software is also mentioned.

Search Strategy
In the literature review section, you are to identify your
search strategy
, which can include the following:
the databases and internet sites or search engines used to explore the literature (CINAHL, Medline, Google, Yahoo, etc.)
the search terms you used
the beginning and ending dates of the period covered in this study
the time period when the search was conducted (e.g., Fall 2008)
any special journals hand-searched and any relevant sources used in performing the literature search
Description of Literature or Gaps in the Literature
The literature review section is a review of studies that are related to your phenomenon. It should take up about eight to ten pages, or approximately 3,000 to 4,000 words. The purpose is to tell the reader what is known about your phenomenon and lead the reader to what is not known about your phenomenon (your research problem). You should have sub-headings throughout this section of the paper.
The literature section discusses the relevant research related to your study. Do not discuss each study individually; instead, synthesize the literature based on your literature matrix. You can discuss individual findings of studies (include all eight studies that you described in your literature matrix in Weeks 4 and 9) as appropriate including the statistical findings and study samples. This section needs to tell the reader what is known about your clinical area of interest. You will also summarize your review of the literature and discuss the gaps you have identified.

How to conduct meta-analysis: A Basic Tutorial
Arindam Basu
University of Canterbury
May 12, 2017
Concepts of meta-analyses
Meta analysis refers to a process of integration of the results of many studies to arrive at evidence syn-
thesis (Normand, 1999). Meta analysis is essentially systematic review; however, in addition to narrative
summary that is conducted in systematic review, in meta analysis, the analysts also numerically pool the
results of the studies and arrive at a summary estimate. In this paper, we discuss the key steps of conducting
a meta analysis. We intend to discuss the steps of a simple meta analysis with a demonstration of the key
steps from a published paper on meta analysis and systematic review of the effectiveness of salt restricted
diet on blood pressure control. This paper is a basic introduction to the process of meta-analysis. In subse-
quent papers in this series, we will discuss how you can conduct meta analysis of diagnostic and screening
studies, and principles of network meta analyses, where you can conduct a meta analysis with more than
one intervention or exposure variable.
Nine Steps to Meta Analyses
We recommend in general the following nine steps of meta analysis. These nine steps are in general applicable
to all meta-analyses.
1. Frame a question (based on a theory)
2. Run a search (on Pubmed/Medline, Google Scholar, other sources)
3. Read the abstract and title of the individual papers.
4. Abstract information from the selected set of final articles.
5. Determine the quality of the information in these articles. This is done using a judgment of their
internal validity but also using the GRADE criteria
6. Determine the extent to which these articles are heterogeneous
7. Estimate the summary effect size in the form of Odds Ratio and using both fixed and random effects
.
The literature review usually precedes a research proposal and results section. Its goals are to situate the current study within the body of literature and to provide context for the particular reader. Literature reviews are important for research in nearly every academic field.
Write a 5–6-page examination of how conditioning changes some of you.docxsalmonpybus
Write a 5–6-page examination of how conditioning changes some of your own behaviors.
While modern research in psychology is not explicitly behaviorist in its approach, behaviorism is still relevant in certain areas today. For example, it is often taken for granted today that objective, quantitative measures will be used in psychological studies, as opposed to the introspective reports that were used in many types of research in the early 1900s.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.

18. Abstract There is ample evidence for the existence of an association between
sleeplessness and worry. Not much is known, however, concerning the nature
of this relationship. Therefore, a study was conducted investigating the causal
relationship between sleeplessness and nocturnal worry. A 2 x 2 (Worry x
Induced sleeplessness) analysis of covariance design was used. The first factor
consisted of a subject variable defined by scoring either high or low on a trait
measure of worry (the Penn State Worry Questionnaire) and the second factor
consisted of 300 mg caffeine or placebo. A total of 96 female undergraduate
students participated. The dependent variables comprised measures of
nocturnal worry (the Night-Time Thoughts Questionnaire) and subjective and
objective sleep parameters. Overall, caffeine caused an increase in nocturnal
worry and sleeplessness. A significant interaction effect occurred between
Worry and Induced sleeplessness on one of the objective sleep parameters, but
no other interaction effects were significant. The results suggest that worry may
occur as an epiphenomenon of sleeplessness.

Editor's Notes
EBM-(evidence based) guidelines.
Synopses & Syntheses*: a synopsis is a summary and critical appraisal of one article, whereas synthesis is a summary and critical appraisal of a topic (which may answer several questions and may cover many articles).
Systematic Reviews (a systematic summary and critical appraisal of original studies) which may or may not include a meta-analysis.
Original Studies.
Purposes for a review
To place work(s) in the context of how it contributes to an understanding of the subject under review
To identify new ways to interpret previous research
To resolve conflicts across seemingly controdictory studies
Avoid reinventing the wheel, or worse, the flat tire

P Patient/Population - What people or patient group do I want information on?
I Intervention – What is the intervention (treatment, cause, prognostic factor) of interest?
C Comparison – What is the main alternative to compare with the intervention (if necessary)?
O Outcomes - What do I hope to accomplish? What could this exposure affect?
Search query Pubmed:
"sleep initiation and maintenance disorders"[MeSH] NOT (sleeplessness[tiab] OR sleep disorder[tiab])
Search query Medline (OvidSP):
"sleep initiation and maintenance disorders“/ NOT (sleeplessness.ti,ab. OR sleep disorder.ti,ab.)
Problematic aspects of Pubmed
- Limited amount of truncation (*) possibilities (only 600 word variations)
- Quotation marks with asterix doesn’t work (compare "word combination*" with word combination* and word and combination* )
- Some word combinations won’t work because Pubmed does phrase indexing instead of word indexing (e.g. "right not to know"[tiab] )
Grey literature is informally published written material (such as reports) that may be difficult to trace via conventional channels such as published journals and monographs because it is not published commercially or is not widely accessible
