Coder Cup 2015
In our summer-long 2015 Coder Cup innovation event, we started with 68 teams from across
the globe. In June, we narrowed the field to 11 finalist teams that will compete for the title in
our final round this September.
Now in its third year, SunGard's coding competition has grown into an exciting opportunity for
our global teams to showcase their technology talent and produce concrete business
advances for our customers and our company. Our Coder Cup competitors epitomize
technological inventiveness, team spirit and bravery, and we want you to get to know each
team that’s going for the win this year.

What was your team’s inspiration in the regional round?
“We were intrigued by the
opportunity to reshape how our
retail customers receive actionable
and contextual data.”
SunGard Confidential6
“Our regional round entry was
inspired by the Back to the Future
movie – our idea was to use
historical data for risk management
and also for future investment
decision-making.”
“We were inspired to drastically
improve efficiency for QA testing.
We knew that solving this
challenge could be a game-
changer not only for ourselves as
technologists but for the entire
industry.”
“Our aim was to take an emerging
technology – voice recognition with
natural language processing – and
harness it to ease interaction with
user interfaces and also to facilitate
new system-to-system integrations.”

What are you most proud of as a team?
SunGard Confidential8
“It all starts with the team. We have
excellent teamwork, dedication and
communication, with a diverse set
of skills among our team
members.”
“We are primarily a bunch of friends
who happen to work together, so we
share brilliant chemistry. With our
varied experience and shared
passion, our team has a winning
combination.”
“Our team is not only coders, which
we feel enhances our strength as a
group. We believe a cross-section of
expertise is how FinTech solutions
and innovation should be discussed –
we are proof that mixing our skill sets
can result in a winning idea.”
“We’re really proud of what our
team developed in this year’s
regional round. We explored
something that was new to us – the
ELK technology stack – to provide
solutions to current challenges with
data visualization.”

How can companies foster a culture of innovation?
SunGard Confidential10
“Events and forums that encourage
innovative thinking are important.
And true encouragement from
senior management to explore and
productize new ideas helps develop
our strong culture of innovation.”
“We’re fortunate to belong to a
team where employees at every
level write code at least every once
in a while. With that level of depth
and experience across your team,
a culture that lauds innovation is
bound to emerge.”
“It’s obvious, isn’t it? Any company
that organizes this type of event is
a company that bets on innovation.”
“Having platforms for innovative
thinking helps us scan the
technology landscape for promising
solutions and ideas outside of our
day-to-day activities and explore
which of these could be leveraged in
new ways to solve real business
needs.”

What is your team bringing to the final round this September?
SunGard Confidential14
“Who knows? We as a team enjoy
the belief that everything is possible.
Ideas come and go but never notify
us before they come. We’re looking
forward to seeing the ideas the final
round will bring.”
“We know our team will put forth the
best we can give in the final round.
We want to bring the Cup home, and
we want to contribute in a meaningful
way with useful, practical new ideas.”
“As returning finalists, we are even
more prepared this year. We showed
what we can do in the regional round,
and we will continue showing our
commitment to innovation and
creativity in this year’s final round.”
“We already know we’re bringing our
‘eat, sleep, code’ attitude, and we’ll
create a great-looking solution which
will help simplify the user’s life in
some way.”
