Requesting Emergency Student Loans
The Student Assistance office at your school provides emergency loans to students in order to help them
financially in their time of need. The requirements for the loans are that students demonstrate a valid
emergency. Students must also show that they are capable of repaying the loan in a timely manner.
Students must request the funds from the Director of Student Assistance Programs, Dr. Jones.
Based upon the information that you learned in Word, construct a business letter to Dr. Jones
requesting a student emergency loan. Include in your letter the reason you are requesting the loan.
You should also include in your letter a short explanation of how you plan to repay the loan to the
school. Limit the letter to 1 page. A properly formatted business letter is provided for an example on
page WD45 in your book. (Use the Ogeechee Technical College address for Dr. Jones)
Analyzing Emergency Student Loans
CONGRATS, your loan request was approved! The Student Assistance office at your school provides
these emergency loans at simple interest. The data obtained from six types of loans available to
students and the desired report format is shown below. The required formulas are also show below.
Use concepts and techniques learned in Excel to create and format an Excel worksheet that can be used
to calculate your student loans as listed below. Please include the total, average, maximum, and
minimum values for Principal, Interest, and Amount Due for each loan. (five loan types)

Analyzing your Debt
You have graduated, so now you made a decision to “get your finances in order in 2013”. In order to
accomplish this task, you will begin to utilize your bank’s free bill pay service so that all of your bills will
be paid on time. Before you can completely set up your bill pay service, you will need to collect some
information on your creditors. The goal is to design a database to track your creditors and subsequently
generate reports that will show the name of the payee (person/company that you owe), the unique
account number, the address of the payee, the type of account (see Table-4 for options) payment due
date and the balance. Don’t forget to include your loan from your school!
Note: You are to create the missing information. You can use the information below as an example.
Notice that “type of account” is taken from Table4-Types of loans.

1. Create a table that stores your creditor information; format the field properties appropriately
(remember your loan types can only be 1 of those listed in Table 4). The name of the table
should be ‘payee’.
2. Create a simple query that displays only the creditor (payees) account number and account
starting balance. The name of the simple should be ‘account balances’.
3. Create a form that allows you to input the information stored in your table. The name of the
form should be ‘payee’
4. 4 | P a g e
4. Create a report that displays all of the information listed in the table with the exception of the
account starting balance. The name of the report should be ‘payee information report’.
Giving Back to Your Community
As part of a local campaign to help raise awareness of the importance of financial
literacy; you have decided to design a PowerPoint presentation about personal finances.
Using the internet as your primary search tool, locate information on “personal
finances”. Create a 6-8 slide presentation about this serious topic. On the last slide,
make sure to include at least 3 relevant sites, that you audience can visit for more
information on ways that they can better manage their finances.
