Preface
The Summer Internship program at IIM Rohtak is an 8-week industry experience program
that aims at providing students with industry exposure to gain hands on experience and
apply the knowledge learnt throughout the first year of MBA program during the course of
the internship.
During the course of our Internship at PayMango India Pvt. Ltd., We had the opportunity to
apply the classroom learning in our Internship. PayMango India Pvt. Ltd is a Platform for
local retailers/sellers to run locational,viral and lineup change (price/content) campaigns
through a mobile app platform. PayMango optionally plugs in a e-commerce engine and
loyalty programs as desired for the merchant to provide full stack marketplace platform for
its buyer
During the internship we worked in various departments which included sales and
marketing, Finance and Catalogue Management. This Internship Provided a great learning
experience and hands on experience in each and every department of the company

continued guidance and direction that helped us complete our internship successfully.
We would also like to thank Mr Nitish Sharma, Head –Sales and Marketing Department and
Mr. Kunal Rekhi, Head –Operations PayMango India Pvt. Ltd. for his continued guidance and
support at every step of the Internship, as it would have been impossible for us to complete
the project without their guidance.Their guidance helped us to learn a lot about working of
hyperlocal Marketplace and e-commerce industry and also their valuable inputs to complete
various activities at different stages of Internship

INTRODUCTION
Increase in the smartphone penetration and better internet connectivity has helped India to
move towards digital commerce over the past decade. Ease of access, wide range of
products and convenience of transacting online has led to E-commerce adoption
.Consumers buy products and services from e-commerce platforms which are hundreds of
kilometres away,even though this demand can be filled locally by hyperlocal market. An
increase in e-commerce start ups and growing interest of investor shows the potential of
hyperlocal marketplace. Hyperlocal commerce essentially consists of firms that are able to
connect the local retailers with the consumers in a particular area. These firms have
advantages like lower logistic costs, less delivery lead time and negligible inventory costs.
This has made delivery of everything possible ranging from groceries, medicines, laundry,
food directly from nearby stores with faster delivery and the option of selecting seller rom
which the consumer wants to order.One such Hyperlocal Company is PayMango India Pvt.
Ltd.
PayMango India Pvt. Ltd. was founded in October,2014 by Mr. Gajinder Singh and Mr. Ram
Singla ,starting operations in Gurgaon, Haryana and going live through its Beta version in
July 2015. With PayMango consumers across Gurgaon can order products such as
medicines, groceries, food, etc. It is basically an “One App to Shop Them All”. Delivery
modes vary from merchant delivery to delivery by paymango itself. Payment can be made
through its own gateway, cash on delivery or through wallet by the customers.
PayMango enables merchants with remote cashless payments, offers mobile invoices and
also analytics on their campaigns and customer base.Mefrchants can interact and transact
with their customers, giving them the level of comfort that e-commerce provides, yet
working in a model which they are accustomed to. The platform offers them Hyper local
segmentation on their customer base , by crowdsourcing data about the end consumers ,
their interest in market, locations, categories and also a particular consumers buying
behaviour. PayMango optionally plugs in a e-Commerce engine and loyalty programs as
desired for the merchant to provide full stack marketplace platform for its buyers.

PayMango India Pvt Ltd. also provides an unique opportunity to its merchants/sellers by
creating a Mobile App and website through its program of “Powered by Paymango” with an
nominal subscription fee for the same. This helps the merchants to create its own unique
identity and through this Program PayMango also helps in creating awareness among the
consumers about the Store and its Website/Mobile App. PayMango .According to PayMango
estimates the current market opportunity is about $16 billion which is much bigger than e-
commerce. This is expected to grow upto $80 billion by the year 2020

OPERATIONS-CATALOGUE MANAGEMENT
Catalogue Management department at PayMango is an integral part of operations .Work in
catalog department starts post sales as soon as the team receives Merchant Catalogue from
sales department.The basic function of catalog department is to add products to the admin
page of PayMango where products were created in general and then as per merchant
catalog products are fetched into each merchant account.
ADMIN UPLOAD:
During Internship we started from the very basic procedure of creating products in admin
ourselves to know the function at the very low level and also to analyse various difficulties
faced by the employees while adding products to the admin page. The procedure for
creating products in admin included starts by first matching the list of products received
from merchant with the already existing products and removing the duplication products
which are then further directly added in the merchant catalog. Next step after removing
matched products from the file a product file is created in CSV format where title, mrp,
variant and features of the product are added in the file as can be seen in the image below:
This process is used while creating products in large numbers but if only a group of products
need to added then they can be directly added from admin page. The major hurdles faced
while creating products in admin was to create variant of two or more products by the
employees and also to find out into which category a particular product will added. Hence
in-order to solve the problem of category/browse node the employees were given a list of
codes of products which could be available from that merchant eg: if the merchant was a
restaurant then browse node related to food and restaurant were separated from the list so
that employees had to only look into those categories rather than searching entire
database. This helped in increasing the speed, efficiency and the quality of work .
Once the products were created by the employees our job was to do the quality check of
the csv file created by them and eliminate the errors before uploading file in admin.

MERCHANT UPLOAD:
Once the products are uploaded in admin the next procedure is to upload products in that
particular merchant.Products are shown on PayMango home page only after they are
uploaded in atleast one merchant catalog.
The procedure to upload in Merchant catalog starts with creating an ID for a particular
merchant to which access is given to both merchant as well as PayMango team. Commission
is decided for that merchant which would be paid to PayMango for every order. Usually the
commission ranges between 5-10% depending on items ordered and whether delivery is by
merchant or PayMango. Mrp for a product is directly added into merchant and not admin
page to avoid price differentiation. Once the mrp is added in the merchant the product are
fetched and saved into merchant. If at a later stage mrp has to be changed then it can be
done from merchant only but if the name or any other feature has to be changed then it has
to be done through admin only.
The problems faced while uploading in merchant included adding individual products
manually into a merchant which took a lot of time .hence because of our recommendation
the process was by changed with support from technical team .Now through a csv file takes
about a minute to fetch 500 products into merchant at a point of time.

IIM-Rohtak Preface The Summer Internship program at IIM Rohtak is an 8-week industry experience program that aims at providing students with industry exposure to gain hands on experience and apply the knowledge learnt throughout the first year of MBA program during the course of the internship. During the course of our Internship at PayMango India Pvt. Ltd., We had the opportunity to apply the classroom learning in our Internship. PayMango India Pvt. Ltd is a Platform for local retailers/sellers to run locational,viral and lineup change (price/content) campaigns through a mobile app platform. PayMango optionally plugs in a e-commerce engine and loyalty programs as desired for the merchant to provide full stack marketplace platform for its buyer During the internship we worked in various departments which included sales and marketing, Finance and Catalogue Management. This Internship Provided a great learning experience and hands on experience in each and every department of the company

  • 4. PayMango India Pvt. Ltd. IIM-Rohtak INTRODUCTION Increase in the smartphone penetration and better internet connectivity has helped India to move towards digital commerce over the past decade. Ease of access, wide range of products and convenience of transacting online has led to E-commerce adoption .Consumers buy products and services from e-commerce platforms which are hundreds of kilometres away,even though this demand can be filled locally by hyperlocal market. An increase in e-commerce start ups and growing interest of investor shows the potential of hyperlocal marketplace. Hyperlocal commerce essentially consists of firms that are able to connect the local retailers with the consumers in a particular area. These firms have advantages like lower logistic costs, less delivery lead time and negligible inventory costs. This has made delivery of everything possible ranging from groceries, medicines, laundry, food directly from nearby stores with faster delivery and the option of selecting seller rom which the consumer wants to order.One such Hyperlocal Company is PayMango India Pvt. Ltd. PayMango India Pvt. Ltd. was founded in October,2014 by Mr. Gajinder Singh and Mr. Ram Singla ,starting operations in Gurgaon, Haryana and going live through its Beta version in July 2015. With PayMango consumers across Gurgaon can order products such as medicines, groceries, food, etc. It is basically an “One App to Shop Them All”. Delivery modes vary from merchant delivery to delivery by paymango itself. Payment can be made through its own gateway, cash on delivery or through wallet by the customers. PayMango enables merchants with remote cashless payments, offers mobile invoices and also analytics on their campaigns and customer base.Mefrchants can interact and transact with their customers, giving them the level of comfort that e-commerce provides, yet working in a model which they are accustomed to. The platform offers them Hyper local segmentation on their customer base , by crowdsourcing data about the end consumers , their interest in market, locations, categories and also a particular consumers buying behaviour. PayMango optionally plugs in a e-Commerce engine and loyalty programs as desired for the merchant to provide full stack marketplace platform for its buyers.

IIM-Rohtak PayMango India Pvt Ltd. also provides an unique opportunity to its merchants/sellers by creating a Mobile App and website through its program of “Powered by Paymango” with an nominal subscription fee for the same. This helps the merchants to create its own unique identity and through this Program PayMango also helps in creating awareness among the consumers about the Store and its Website/Mobile App. PayMango .According to PayMango estimates the current market opportunity is about $16 billion which is much bigger than e- commerce. This is expected to grow upto $80 billion by the year 2020
  • 6. PayMango India Pvt. Ltd. IIM-Rohtak OPERATIONS-CATALOGUE MANAGEMENT Catalogue Management department at PayMango is an integral part of operations .Work in catalog department starts post sales as soon as the team receives Merchant Catalogue from sales department.The basic function of catalog department is to add products to the admin page of PayMango where products were created in general and then as per merchant catalog products are fetched into each merchant account. ADMIN UPLOAD: During Internship we started from the very basic procedure of creating products in admin ourselves to know the function at the very low level and also to analyse various difficulties faced by the employees while adding products to the admin page. The procedure for creating products in admin included starts by first matching the list of products received from merchant with the already existing products and removing the duplication products which are then further directly added in the merchant catalog. Next step after removing matched products from the file a product file is created in CSV format where title, mrp, variant and features of the product are added in the file as can be seen in the image below: This process is used while creating products in large numbers but if only a group of products need to added then they can be directly added from admin page. The major hurdles faced while creating products in admin was to create variant of two or more products by the employees and also to find out into which category a particular product will added. Hence in-order to solve the problem of category/browse node the employees were given a list of codes of products which could be available from that merchant eg: if the merchant was a restaurant then browse node related to food and restaurant were separated from the list so that employees had to only look into those categories rather than searching entire database. This helped in increasing the speed, efficiency and the quality of work . Once the products were created by the employees our job was to do the quality check of the csv file created by them and eliminate the errors before uploading file in admin.
  • 7. PayMango India Pvt. Ltd. IIM-Rohtak MERCHANT UPLOAD: Once the products are uploaded in admin the next procedure is to upload products in that particular merchant.Products are shown on PayMango home page only after they are uploaded in atleast one merchant catalog. The procedure to upload in Merchant catalog starts with creating an ID for a particular merchant to which access is given to both merchant as well as PayMango team. Commission is decided for that merchant which would be paid to PayMango for every order. Usually the commission ranges between 5-10% depending on items ordered and whether delivery is by merchant or PayMango. Mrp for a product is directly added into merchant and not admin page to avoid price differentiation. Once the mrp is added in the merchant the product are fetched and saved into merchant. If at a later stage mrp has to be changed then it can be done from merchant only but if the name or any other feature has to be changed then it has to be done through admin only. The problems faced while uploading in merchant included adding individual products manually into a merchant which took a lot of time .hence because of our recommendation the process was by changed with support from technical team .Now through a csv file takes about a minute to fetch 500 products into merchant at a point of time.
