About me/Introduction
Eportfolio is one of the most successful assignments that I learned in PMU. So, most of
the students in PMU had a good experience with this assignment, because it is very
helpful and effective for the students to share their experience in the six competences.
Also, most of the students can learn from each other by looking to each student’s
experience. These six competences are very helpful for the students, because they will
know the importance of the communication and teamwork to do our work in the life.
Also, they will know the relationship between being a leadership and professional.
This is Ahmed Alramadan, I am a sophomore student at prince Mohammed Bin Fahd in
Saudi Arabia. I am studying a mechanical engineering in the college of engineering. I
chose this major because I want to be one of the most successful engineers in the Saudi
Arabia. Moreover, most of the companies in the Saudi Arabia need a lot of engineers’
specially mechanical engineers. Also, I interest in this major because I have a huge
information about the Mechanical engineering and I interest to work with engines, design
and manufacturing.
Professional Goals
My short term goal is to graduate from prince Mohammed Bin Fahd University in
mechanical engineering after two years.
My long term goal is to keep going in studying and having a master in management, then
I will start to do my project as establishing a company for manufacturing and designing
engines.
Competencies
The six core competences are one of the most important goals that PMU needs from all
the students to know these competences and apply it in their life. You cannot pass the
core if you do not know the competences and the importance of these competences in our

1. Summary of internship
Internship location: Shanghai Pudong jinwan road no.56, GM China
Internship time: on December 18, 2013 - February 28, 2014
On December 18, 2013, I entered the GM China and began the first internship
experience in life. The Job title is GM China test engineer of concept vehicle
integration (CVI) laboratory in engineering department. Since I am a newcomer in lab
and engineering department, the department arrange experienced engineer Yi Zhen
give me instructions. Under the guidance of Yi Zhen, I understand the plan of concept
vehicle integration, tests in laboratory, daily work. And I also actively participate in
related work. During the internship, it is necessary to compare the practical work with
theoretical knowledge and deepen the understanding of the practical work with the
theoretical knowledge, to verify that knowledge learned in university is really useful
to practice.
During this period, two tasks of work and study is completed. First going to and
off work with other colleagues, cooperating with each other to complete department
work is my business; learning with modesty and striving to gain practical experience
is my task. At work, I try to adapt to the lab as soon as possible and complete the
assignments with strong responsibility. Practice brings me a lot of benefit. It made me
have a deeper perceptual and the rational understanding in R&D work especially of
the concept vehicle integration of GM China.
My work is mainly carried out in the laboratory. In the laboratory, I mainly
responsible for computer 3 d modeling of the required components, machining CNC
programming, and engineering drawings and supporting workers to use equipment
such as machining. The preparation of the car chassis, body and other parts of the test
fixture is important work of the laboratory. It determines the accuracy of the concept
car assembly, and ultimately affects the results of the test concept car. For the purpose
of ensuring the accuracy of fitness between the various parts of the entire concept car,
the experienced engineer recommends to model the various parts of concept cars and
assembly virtually in the computer. By contrast to requirement, we can observe the
design before manufacturing, and is able to repeatedly modify the model until meet
the requirements of the workflow in the end.

It is worth mentioning that because of the visualization of part model in
computer, designers and manufacturers are easier to observe a variety of problems in
the assembly and instantly modify their design. They can work together to solve the
problem by improving the part size and other parameters, as well as the defect the
wrongness in the design phase.
So you can avoid the later modifications of real parts, or other changes which
may take much bigger costs to meet the precision requirement in the assembly of the
entire concept car. In this way, we can increase the speed of a component design and
reduce pieces of scrap caused by problems existing in preliminary design. Due to lack
of experience, I take a lot of detours when modeling vehicle parts. That bring my
colleagues a lot of trouble, but Zhen Yi did not criticize me. Instead, he share
experience with me, encourage me to continue working hard. I am really encouraged,
and go on to get things done.
In internship, I get a deep feeling, multifaceted improve their ability. The
progress of ability to work is chief among them. The purpose of doing an internship is
to enhance we students the ability to do the actual work, and how to work well with
what we learned in the school, give us the opportunity to put knowledge and skills
into actual work. Since entering GM China, I work hard in a positive, open-minded,
and studious attitude, and participate laboratories concept car project, work such as
concept car assembly debugging and testing. And I begin to become familiar with a
variety of laboratory equipment, understand the function of each department. So I can
devote what I am good at to serve for the laboratory work as soon as possible. During
the internship I summarize work in every day, and receive a good response. Remarks
from feedback sound of the GM China also reflects I have a strong ability to adapt,
with a certain degree of organization and communication skills, well executing tasks
assigned to me during the internship.

Internship harvest, mainly in the following areas:
1 Experienced the corporation culture of GM China, met many of my colleagues
from home and abroad. Among them is the boss who often eats potato chips called
Ifetkhar, John who is responsible for the safety and security of experience, Tsinghua
graduated master engineer Yi Zhen, And Tony who have changed four jobs, the CNC
programming projects, etc. And I happened to get the chance to attend the annual
meeting on Feb.14 2014. During the annual meeting of GM China, the CEO at the
meeting in English elaborated GM's vision is to design, manufacture, sell the world's
best cars.
2I have improved the practical work ability and obtained the valuable experience
for future employment. I learned advanced 3D print method and other critical skills.
3Enhanced professional knowledge and skills and deepened the understanding of
American automobile industry background. Since GM has American background,
ANS was preferred in the system development of GM China. We used ASME-
14.5(2009) as GD&T other than GB. The dimension, tolerance and fiducial mark used
in CAD software NX reflected American GD&T standard.
4Enhanced the communication skill. I had to communicate with the superior
from American headquarters in English. When I expressed the manufacturing method
of parts with Yi who came from Hubei, I communicated in Mandarin. And many
experienced Shanghai colleague preferred Shanghainese. I had to change different
language at work. An open-minded attitude was important as well. The colleagues
would be willing to help solving problems.
Through the internship, I have roughly understood the automobile industry. I will
learn more relevant knowledge to improve my level and skill job skills. From the
ignorant beginning to now, the two months benefited me a lot.
Thanks again: Iftekhar Ibrahim,Eva Zhang, Zhen Yi, Tony Li, Cris, Xiaowei
Hou, Sam Zhu, Zizhong chen, Zhiming Hu, Qun shao and other colleagues.
