A clinical trial studying the effects of animal-assisted therapy on pediatric oncology patients was launched across five children's hospitals in the country. The study measures how therapy animals affect the health-related quality of life of children between ages 3 and 12 newly diagnosed with cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Researchers also plan to study if animal-assisted therapy reduces parents' and guardians' stress and anxiety levels and how the therapy canines' behaviors change over the course of the study.
