 South Korea covers an area of 100,210 sq km
(38,677 sq. miles), on the southern half of the
Korean Peninsula
 Seventy percent of the country is mountainous;
arable lowlands are concentrated along the west
coast.
 South Korea's only land border is with North
Korea, along the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). It
has sea borders with China and Japan.
 South Korea has a humid continental climate,
with four seasons. Winters are cold and snowy,
while summers are hot and humid with frequent
typhoons.
 Language: The Korean language is the
official language of South Korea, spoken by
99% of the population
 Religion: As of 2005, 46.5% of South Koreans
had no religious preference. The largest
religion was Buddhism, with 22.8%, followed
by all Protestant Christian denominations, at
18.3%, and Catholics, at 10.9%.
 Economy of South Korea: South Korea is one
of Asia's Tiger Economies, ranked fourteenth
in the world according to GDP. Based largely
on exports
Important South Korean manufacturers include
Samsung, Hyundai and LG.
 The economy of South Korea is the 4th largest
economy in Asia.
 The 11th largest in the world.
 South Korea became a developed, high-economy
country in just one generation.
 This economic miracle, commonly known as the
Miracle on the Han river.
 In 1996, joined OECD (Organization for
Economic Cooperation and Development)

 In 2014, South Korea was the 10th largest importer
and 7th largest Exporter in the world.
 Electronics, Textile, Ships, Automobile and Steel is
some of it’s most important exports.

 South Korea became a leading producer of ships
 The country’s major shipbuilder was Hyundai,
Samsung, Daewoo, STX, the world's 4 largest ship
building companies
 3.Electronics
 The World’s sixth largest manufacturer of electronics
goods.
 Major manufacturer of semiconductors, with
Samsung electronics and Hynix Semiconductor
 4. Automobiles
 World’s largest automobile producer, coming in 5th
after USA and Germany
