Ed Batista, The Art of Self-Coaching @StanfordBiz, Fall 2017 SyllabusEd Batista
The Art of Self-Coaching is a course that I designed and taught for the first time at the Stanford Graduate School of Business in Spring 2015. I define self-coaching as the process of guiding our own growth and development, particularly through periods of transition. I currently teach three sections of the course at the GSB, one each in Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters.
This document is the latest syllabus, and you can find condensed versions of my slide decks, and references to course readings and related materials on my site: http://www.edbatista.com/the-art-of-self-coaching-course.html
Many thanks to the 144 GSB students who've taken the course so far (and whose feedback made it better), and thanks in advance to the 36 new students who have signed on for Fall 2017--I'm eager to explore this material with them.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Congratulations, you've been singled out by a student on the 2022 ACE Student Satisfaction Survey for being an
excellent professor. Thanks for all you do for our students! [American College of Education]
End-of-Course Feedback from Students September 2022:
Dear Dr. J.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support, encouragement, and guidance during
these five weeks. This is my first class at ACE. From the beginning, I was worried, uneasy, and not
confident, but now I am looking forward to my new semester, which has your unremitting efforts. I know I
have a lot of shortcomings, but you have not given up on me. You have been giving me a lot of
encouragement and guidance. You have guided me step by step through each discussion and assignment.
What's more, you commented on every discussion and homework of mine carefully, which made me learn a
lot. I feel a significant change in these five weeks, mainly in my mentality. I think it's a good start. It also
makes me full of expectation and confidence to complete my degree in ACE.
Thank you very much for accompanying me through the first step of this journey. I hope I can meet you
again in the following learning journey. And I want to tell you how lucky I am to be your student.
Thank you. YF
• Dr. Johnson has shown passion and dedication to meet our expectations as he has frequently communicated
with us. He has been proactive enough to move us away from our comfort zone to decide on our field of
interest for our dissertation topic. He answered our emails almost immediately and organized synchronous
hours every week in case we had questions.
• Dr. Johnson is the best instructor I have had thus far at ACE. I completed my Master's Degree with ACE,
and was blown away at what a motivational and knowledgeable instructor Dr. J is.
• Dr. J is an encouraging and insightful professor. He provided very helpful feedback and continually guided
and supported us throughout the course.
• Dr. J was very accessible and gave feedback that helped me grow personally, professionally, and
educationally. He was a great professor to have for my first doctoral experience.
• Dr. J is a phenomenal instructor. He is genuine in his approach and desire to help students really learn and
succeed. I hope to have him as an instructor in the future.
• My professor is very knowledgeable and critiques us according to our skill and gives lots of feedback for
improvement.
• Dr. J is a really good instructor. He thoroughly explained all of the assignments.
• Dr. J was always available to provide guidance anytime any student needed his assistance.
2. 2
• I struggled the first week. But with Dr. J's guidance I was able to redeem myself.
• Dr. J provided feedback in a manner that was direct but also supportive. He would also provide thought
provoking questions within his discussion responses which forced us to dig deeper into the content.
• Dr. J was knowledgeable and available to assist.
• Dr. Johnson videos were clear with instructions that helped me throughout the course,
• Dr. J. was very responsive to my questions and made himself available for office hours each week. This
proved very helpful throughout the course.
• I thought this was the perfect introductory course to begin my doctoral journey. Dr J was excellent in
giving clear instruction on what the expectations were for each assignment. This helped to save time so I
could get more out of the actual assignment then trying to figure out what I was supposed to be doing.
• Dr. J. provided clarifying videos each week concerning all topics and assignments. These helped me stay
on track and understand what I needed to do each week. He also communicated with us
throughout the week and provided clarity and inspiration. He was also available for office hours each week.
• Dr. Johnson has gone to great lengths to provide resource materials, timely individualized feedback, and
tremendous support. I finished my master's degree a decade ago. He was the perfect instructor to get me back
in the swing of rigorous study. He maintained very high standards, yet he remained consistently supportive. I
learned a lot of what not to do, but the bottom line is that I learned.
• Dr. J is one of the most helpful and organized professors that I have ever had. I hope that he teaches other
courses because I feel very supported in his class. He helps to break down the assignments because
throughout my Master's coursework it was difficult to figure out what some assignments were asking.
• Dr. J was an excellent understanding teacher.
• I felt that Dr. Johnson provided many opportunities for academic success.
• Dr. J's instructor notes were the most helpful tool for me during this course. He would explain the
directions in a way that made complete sense to me.
• I enjoyed that Dr. J facilitated the discussions. I didn't know what to expect at first, and having him
intersperse his thoughts throughout the discussions helped me stay on task and focused.
• Receiving helpful feedback that is both complimentary and constructive.
• The most positive experience was the feedback on discussions and assignments I received.
• The constructive feedback of Dr. J really helped me become a scholar-practitioner. He is very
accommodating, motivational and is always willing to help. I've grown so much especially the APA style
of writing.
• Being able to interact freely with Dr. J. Although I did not take part in any of his asynchronous office hours
I knew that he was always available.
