2. Intertextual
This video includes postmodern features including Intertextual references to
other forms of media. This is identifiable in the video where special
computer effects are used to create more modern scenes (a hyper reality)
that mirrors a Japanese Manga ‘Akira’ that released in 1988. The similarities
between the manga and the music video create a narrative throughout the
video
3. Other Intertextual aspects
Other Intertextual factors in this music video include the representation of
Kanye’s character that depicts the character in the film Tetsuo. This is
shown towards the beginning of the video where he is shown in the location
of a laboratory inside of a machine.
4. Popular culture
The backing song of this music video is a well known dance song which is by
Daft Punk called ‘Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. Daft Punk play a role in
this video, they play the role as the people operating the machinery which
Kanye is on. The presence of Daft Punk on the song is a postmodern
feature because it relates to popular culture and two musical legends from
an earlier era.
