Stretch blow moulding is a plastic forming process where stretching is done before blowing air into a preform or parison to expand it against a mould. There are two main types: injection stretch blow moulding and extrusion stretch blow moulding. Biaxial stretch blow moulding stretches the plastic in both the longitudinal and transverse directions, increasing properties like tensile strength and clarity. Common materials used are PET, PVC, PS, and PP. The process produces containers for packaging items like oil, drinks, and other beverages.
2. STRETCH BLOW MOULDING
Stretch blow moulding is a process on which
stretching is done before blowing.
The stretch blow moulding method can be applied
to both injection and extrusion blow moulding
process.
Each plastic material has a temperature limit at
which it can be stretched to get optimum orientation
and properties.
Biaxial stretch blow moulding is the method in
which the stretching is done in both longitudinal and
transverse direction.
3. Biaxial orientation increases the tensile
strength,gas barrier properties,drop impact strength
and clarity of plastics.
The various materials suitable for stretch blow
moulding are PET,PVC,PS,SAN,POM,PP.
TYPES OF STRETCH BLOW MOULDING
Injection Stretch Blow Moulding.
Extrusion Stretch Blow Moulding.
4. 1. INJECTION STRETCH BLOW MOULDING
o The PET preform is injection moulded in the first
station and upon proper cooling, the cavity mould
half drops down and the core rod mould half rises.
o The table indexes 90° to the conditioning station,
where the preform is conditioned by internal and
external core-rod heaters to the proper
temperature for stretch blow moulding.
o The table again indexes 90° to the third station,
where the preform is stretch blow moulded.

6. 2. EXTRUSION STRETCH BLOW MOULDING
Suitable for processing of PVC, PET.
PROCESS:-
Extruding a parison.
Converting the parison into a preform.
Blowing and stretching the preform in the
final blow mould.

8. APPLICATION:-
• Containers made by Stretch Blow Moulding are
used for –
• Packing of Oil.
• Wine, Sprits.
• Milk.
• Mineral Water.
• Carbonated Drinks.
• Soft Drinks & Medicine
9. 2. ORIENTED FILM
Introduction :-
Biaxially oriented means that the film is stretched
in two different directions. To stretch the film in the
longitudinal direction (machine direction), roll
stretching systems were used , and for transverse
drawing used in industry.
Material used:- oriented films are for the most
part made from the partially thermoplastic PP, PET,
low pressure poly crystalline ethylene and
polyamide.
10. Material used for bopp:-
Material used:- oriented films are for the most

Advantage:-
Excellent mechanical properties, it has high
tensile strength and shock strength than PE film.
A newly developed BOPP film targeted as a
replacement for blow or cast polyethylene.
11. PROCESS STEP
1. Feed material :- commercially available pp resin is
used for feed the material in to the hopper, also pre dry
the material before the process.
2. Quenching Step :- The extruded PP web is quenched
by passing the web into a water bath with a surface of
the water or other quench liquid being maintained at a
gap. Drying Step :- As the PP web is drawn from the
water by the use of conventional techniques it is
important to remove entire water from the surface of
the web.
12. 3. Longitudinal orientation :- Various stretching
equipment may be employed to carry out the
longitudinal or machine direction orientation. An
arrangement comprising a series of slow and fast
rolls provided with temperature controls has been
done.
4. Transverse Orientation :- As the PP film emerges
from the preheated section it is directed between the
parallel rows of tender clips.
5. Trimming & Wind up:- Trimming & wind up section
are also provided with idler and nip rolls to maintain
an even tension on the film during these operations.
In trimming step the extra film are removed by blade
or Knife.
