Strategic Plan Part 1: New Service
1
Introduction
Chicago Public School buses have been found to be a necessity
in the day to day operations of any CPS school. More
specifically, buses enable students to reach school in time so
children can participate in daily activities efficiently. More
importantly, it aids students who live a considerable distance
away from school such that they not only arrive in time, but are
equally not entirely worn out from the journey they have to
make to school such that they cannot concentrate in other
school activities (Davidson, Werder & Lawson, 2015). It is
therefore a fundamental initiative since there is a need. This
need is analysis proving the importance of the innovation in the
Chicago Public School bus industry revealing that incorporating
the service for all children in spite of the distance can be even
more efficient. Other than its importance, this proposal details
the new business’s vision, mission as well as values. It also
determines a business model for the new division.
The Proposal: Service Introduction, Background & Mission
Statement
This proposal is for a new school bus service for the new
company division that focuses on aiding the parent to ensure the
learner safely gets to school safely. After researching the
growing industry of transportation services available for
children, it was revealed that whereas a number of CPS school
transportation options for children do exist, most of these
services are focused on the learner who needs to travel several
miles to get to school. The learner who lives near the school is
therefore disadvantaged as, in some cases, the parent may be
working and therefore unable to see the child off to school, in
spite of the distance being considered close for them to reach on
their own. Dual working parents in particular experience
conflict in getting their children to day care, preschool, sport
activities among other important schooling ventures. As a
result, many parents tend to welcome the idea of having
alternative transportation accorded to their children that will
have little or no effect on their work schedules. The mission of
the new school bus service therefore is to provide a reliable and
safe transportation for all school going children at a fair flat
price to parents.
In the pursuit for the realization of the mission for safety and
reliability in transportation for all school going children in spite
of the distance, there is also the need to derive fundamental
objectives. Objectivity in this case is based on the importance
of innovation in the CPS transportation industry. The objectives
include providing licensed transportation at a fair price which
aims at ensuring government regulations are met and standards
maintained as well as parents reasonably required for financing
of the transportation services offered. The flat fee criterion
helps in accountability, raises awareness of safety and helps to
avoid creating lines of division among learners who may be
from the same learning institution. Other eventual objectives
include to enhance the business such that it becomes a trusted
transportation service all over the location as well as to create
jobs through hiring drivers and other staff with the growth of
the company and even to contract with area CPS schools up to
and including day care, preschool and even recreational centers
that have no transportation program in place.
The new school bus service for the new company division is a
transportation service proposal that will be exclusively used for
the transportation of children to and from school related
activities at a reasonable flat price in spite of the distance from
the determined location. It will be different from taxi operations
in that it will be focused solely on school going children and
not any other age group. Its uniqueness will also be based on
the idea that unlike traditional services that might offer
transportation for free but discriminate on distance from school,
the proposed service targets to transport all school going
children in spite of the distance.
Customer Needs & Competitive Advantage
The specific needs of the customer addressed above are being
met by this proposal. The dual working parents who live near to
the school also have the advantage of having their kids taken to
school in a transportation arrangement that is considered safe
and fair. It therefore presents a competitive advantage to
traditional services that do not offer this alternative.
Additionally, the flat fee per child is also attractive to parents
who may find it difficult using public transportation for
instance that might charge differently for older children.
Consequently, it is a viable proposal as its competitiveness
gives it greater possibilities for success.
Vision & Business Model
This business aims at being one of the most reliable
transportation services for school going children in the future.
The working parent is provided with an alternative of ensuring
the learner gets to school safely in the time required without
having to interrupt his or her working schedule. In order to
realize this objective, the business is structured such that safety
and reliability are its most important elements. Safety is
determined by screening drivers during recruitment for
experience as well as legal aspects that would otherwise
invalidate them (Morey, 2015). Parents are made aware of the
recruiting procedures involved so as to boost their interest and
confidence in the company. Additionally, parents also get to
meet with the necessary staff before scheduling times and
making payment to further boost confidence in the company
adding to the feeling of safety necessary for the successful
operation of the company. By meeting with the parents and
scheduling pick up and drop off hours, the business division
involved can accurately schedule time so as to meet individual
parent demands to the inconvenience of none.
Strategic Direction: Summary of Vision, Mission & Values
While the company’s vision is to become one of the most
reliable transportation options for school going children in the
future, its mission is to provide a reliable and safe
transportation for all school going children at a fair flat price to
parents. The company holds values such as reliability most
important so as to ensure competitive advantage. These features
are in line with the business strategic direction. Reliability in
offering transportation to school going children will ensure
parents find the company trustworthy such that they continually
allow their children to use the service (Dearlove, 2000).
Additionally, parents will be content in the knowledge that their
children are in safe hands.
Guiding Principles and Values
The new business proposal is guided by a number of important
principles and values for the division enshrined in the context
of culture, social responsibility as well as ethics. It is important
for any successful business to have the needs of the client in
mind at all times before anything else (Dearlove, 2000). With
this in mind, therefore, the business aims at ensuring the needs
of both the parent as well as the learner are met. Guided by the
desire to be reliable, parents can be assured of punctuality of
both themselves as well as their learners. The learning needs of
the child are consequently effectively met. Additionally, as the
parents’ concern about the child goes beyond punctuality to
include safety, screening of drivers among other security
measures helps in aiding security and building confidence in the
company. Parents can rest assured that their children are in the
safest of hands. Ethics in this case refers to perceptions of right
and wrong as determined by the society in which one exists. In
stepping in to take the child to school, the service is taking up
the responsibility of care giver and is therefore socially
responsible for the child’s safety in dropping and picking them
up from school.
Conclusion
It is important that innovation be considered a key concept in
Chicago Public School bus industry. Parents need to go to work
in the knowledge that their children will get to and from school
efficiently and safely. The proposal hereby presented is one
such innovation that will contribute a great deal to this
particular idea, consequently ensuring a growth of a reliable
business. The business will contribute not just to the school
industry in particular but also the community as a whole
through the creation of job opportunities. Additionally, it will
also serve to meet fundamental ethical needs of the community
by ensuring the safety of the children is uttermost whenever the
children are in their care. It is thus a viable proposal both
financially as well as culturally in addressing an existing
problem in society.

The Proposal: Service Introduction, Background & Mission Statement This proposal is for a new school bus service for the new company division that focuses on aiding the parent to ensure the learner safely gets to school safely. After researching the growing industry of transportation services available for children, it was revealed that whereas a number of CPS school transportation options for children do exist, most of these services are focused on the learner who needs to travel several miles to get to school. Dual working parents in particular experience conflict in getting their children to day care, preschool, sport activities among other important schooling ventures. As a result, many parents tend to welcome the idea of having alternative transportation accorded to their children that will have little or no effect on their work schedules. The mission of the new school bus service therefore is to provide a reliable and safe transportation for all school going children at a fair flat price to parents. In the pursuit for the realization of the mission for safety and reliability in transportation for all school going children in spite of the distance, there is also the need to derive fundamental objectives. Objectivity in this case is based on the importance of innovation in the CPS transportation industry. The objectives include providing licensed transportation at a fair price which aims at ensuring government regulations are met and standards maintained as well as parents reasonably required for financing of the transportation services offered. The flat fee criterion helps in accountability, raises awareness of safety and helps to avoid creating lines of division among learners who may be from the same learning institution. Other eventual objectives include to enhance the business such that it becomes a trusted transportation service all over the location as well as to create jobs through hiring drivers and other staff with the growth of the company and even to contract with area CPS schools up to and including day care, preschool and even recreational centers that have no transportation program in place. The new school bus service for the new company division is a transportation service proposal that will be exclusively used for the transportation of children to and from school related activities at a reasonable flat price in spite of the distance from the determined location. It will be different from taxi operations in that it will be focused solely on school going children and not any other age group. Its uniqueness will also be based on

Customer Needs & Competitive Advantage The specific needs of the customer addressed above are being met by this proposal. The dual working parents who live near to the school also have the advantage of having their kids taken to school in a transportation arrangement that is considered safe and fair. It therefore presents a competitive advantage to traditional services that do not offer this alternative. Additionally, the flat fee per child is also attractive to parents who may find it difficult using public transportation for instance that might charge differently for older children. Consequently, it is a viable proposal as its competitiveness gives it greater possibilities for success. Vision & Business Model This business aims at being one of the most reliable transportation services for school going children in the future. The working parent is provided with an alternative of ensuring the learner gets to school safely in the time required without having to interrupt his or her working schedule. In order to realize this objective, the business is structured such that safety and reliability are its most important elements. Safety is determined by screening drivers during recruitment for experience as well as legal aspects that would otherwise invalidate them (Morey, 2015). Parents are made aware of the recruiting procedures involved so as to boost their interest and confidence in the company. Additionally, parents also get to meet with the necessary staff before scheduling times and making payment to further boost confidence in the company adding to the feeling of safety necessary for the successful operation of the company. By meeting with the parents and

Strategic Direction: Summary of Vision, Mission & Values While the company’s vision is to become one of the most reliable transportation options for school going children in the future, its mission is to provide a reliable and safe transportation for all school going children at a fair flat price to parents. The company holds values such as reliability most important so as to ensure competitive advantage. These features are in line with the business strategic direction. Reliability in offering transportation to school going children will ensure parents find the company trustworthy such that they continually allow their children to use the service (Dearlove, 2000). Additionally, parents will be content in the knowledge that their children are in safe hands. Guiding Principles and Values The new business proposal is guided by a number of important principles and values for the division enshrined in the context of culture, social responsibility as well as ethics. It is important for any successful business to have the needs of the client in mind at all times before anything else (Dearlove, 2000). With this in mind, therefore, the business aims at ensuring the needs of both the parent as well as the learner are met. Guided by the desire to be reliable, parents can be assured of punctuality of both themselves as well as their learners. The learning needs of the child are consequently effectively met. Additionally, as the parents’ concern about the child goes beyond punctuality to include safety, screening of drivers among other security measures helps in aiding security and building confidence in the company. Parents can rest assured that their children are in the safest of hands. Ethics in this case refers to perceptions of right and wrong as determined by the society in which one exists. In stepping in to take the child to school, the service is taking up

Conclusion It is important that innovation be considered a key concept in Chicago Public School bus industry. Parents need to go to work in the knowledge that their children will get to and from school efficiently and safely. The proposal hereby presented is one such innovation that will contribute a great deal to this particular idea, consequently ensuring a growth of a reliable business. The business will contribute not just to the school industry in particular but also the community as a whole through the creation of job opportunities. Additionally, it will also serve to meet fundamental ethical needs of the community by ensuring the safety of the children is uttermost whenever the children are in their care. It is thus a viable proposal both financially as well as culturally in addressing an existing problem in society. References Davison, K. K., Werder, J. L., & Lawson, C. T. (2008).
