5. Boundary and Trade Agreement
March 2,1963, Pakistan and China both signed a trade agreement in Beijing, Pakistan gained
control over 750 sqmile of territory (land and salt mine)which were under China.
January 4,1963 Pakistan and China signed a trade agreement, which provided for commercial
exchanges on the basis of most favored Nations treatment.
February 13,1965 Another agreement was signed, direct radio and communications link Was also
established.

Most important development from both military and commercial point of view.
Reopening of Silk route, joining Xinjiang with Hunza Valley to traders on 1967.
IMPORTANCE OF KARAKORAM HIGHWAY:-
In case of any attack on Pakistan by sea, military aid from China can reach Pakistan through this
route. The bridges on the highway are capable of caring light weight tanks.
Useful in time of Peace as well as war.
