2. Once upon a time, there was kid called Ian Adams, a kid of
ten years old, he was an only child in his family, his parents
were Mr. Adams and Ms Adams, they were from England,
Ian’s parents were hard workers in a company, where they
created things that as Ian said, never going to understand.
Even Ian didn’t have siblings; he had a lot of friends in the
school that he loved like part of the family, but those
friends really close were Stephanie, Marc and Dalton.
Actually, he always told his parents that the only reason
he was going to school was because of them, their friends.
3. His favorite part of the year was December, that was
because in that month were two dates that he loved at
all: His Birthday and Christmas, and both were at the
same day, 25th December. He liked it because his
parents used to give him a lot of gifts and he could play
with the snow with his friends, they were building
snowmen or snow angels on the cold floor, then drinking
hot chocolate, and having snow battles, but also because
he always saw that in that day they were really
together.
4. The normal and common days sometimes were really
tedious days, Ian was really bored. One day his father,
Richard, said “Ian, come here, we’ve got a surprise to
you”. He was really uncertain and he didn’t know the
reason, in his mind a there was a thought “Christmas and
my birthday are coming, so the surprise could be
amazing” At the night of that day he was extremely sad,
the surprise was they were moving to another new house,
to another country, very soon.
5. He spent a few days begging to stay to Marc and Dalton’s
house, but his parents always saw it as a simple joke, but he
was saying it to be true. They were moving to Costa Rica, he
was not worried at all. But…
He was going to
miss his country
and his friends
too.
6. When he saw for the first time his new home he really
loved it, it was different than the usual houses from
England. He asked to his parents why there’s no
chimney, and his father told that in there they don’t
need because the weather is different, the winter is
only rain, and there’s no snow.
December came very quickly, and Ian made a lot of new
friendship with kids of all different ages of his new
neighborhood.
7. It was true, there wasn’t
snow, “so, what am I going
to do now?” he thought.
He was watching the
neighborhood and he saw a
girl that he hadn’t seen
before, she was named
Maria Jose, she was older
than him.
8. Ian asked her about how was the Christmas in Costa
Rica, she said a lot of characteristics, but what Ian
saw interesting was to eat “Tamales”, when he ate it
for the first time he really liked it, also, they make
a “Portal”, also they made a Christmas cake and the
“Posadas”, that are activities when people goes to
another people’s house to watch their “Portales”.
But in his birthday, it was very different to the last
birthdays he ever had. Ian realized that he start to
love the Christmas, the new neighborhood, and the
new friends.
9. Ian loved putting the Christmas tree, its balls and the star on
the top of the tree. And put the lights out of his home.
10. He didn’t lose the communication
with Dalton and Marc, actually
they told Ian that they would
travel to Costa Rica one day.
Ian told them that he loved Costa
Rica and even more the Christmas
because they can go to the park
with the bicycle with his parents
and new friends, and there was not
cold everywhere, even though the
snow had been really loved by Ian.
Ian learned different traditional
things of Costa Rica, but the
Christmas was his most important
point to study the country, and
that one he loved more.
