The document describes the design process for a farm called NEVAR Farm. It will provide learning opportunities for veterans transitioning to civilian life through various farming disciplines. The cards were helpful when I started to rearrange them. It made me realize that my
farm is versatile and the elements can be rotated annually in location and variety to
help the soil remain fertile and sustaining maximum yields.
After absorbing the text and video tutorial, I learned that many of my elements can
share common planting area, use, and purpose. For example; the combining of the
wild flowers with the orchards for natural composting and fertilization.
My structures will have means of water collection and design for multi use.
Incorporating winter housing for fowl with the greenhouses is key to keep energy cost
to a minimum.
My farm design process began with determining all of the disciplines that I wanted to
incorporate. After I determined my main components, I began adding the sub
elements under each component. Once completed, I moved the cards around to
visualize how elements can be grouped by location as well as class of product.

3. NEVAR Farm is design to provide a dynamic agricultural environment for veterans to transition from
active military to the civilian sector.
We will provide multiple farming disciplines so students will learn how to create an economically
and nutritionally supportive farm of their own.
The farm will not only provide learning opportunities to veterans and the Merrimack Valley, all of
the farm production will go to Essex County foodbanks and the greater Haverhill community.
